The Statement Mono is the monoblock power amplifier of Constellation Audio's Statement series, which sits above the Performance 2, Revelation 2 and Inspiration 2 lines in the company's range. Constellation describes it as the finest amplifier it has created, and it is offered alongside a Statement Stereo model.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 1,700 W into 8 ohms and 5,600 W into 2 ohms, measured at 1 kHz and 0.2% THD+N, and two units can be bridged for higher output. Above the 8 ohm figure, the company notes that output is limited by available AC power rather than by the amplifier. There is a single XLR input, and speakers connect through metal binding posts. Frequency response runs from 0.5 Hz to 100 kHz, +0/-0.1 dB. THD+N stays below 0.05% from 10 Hz to 20 kHz at 1 kHz and 90% of rated power. Gain is switchable between 4.5 V (27.7 dB) and 9 V (21.7 dB). The damping factor exceeds 200 into 8 ohms between 20 Hz and 1 kHz, signal-to-noise ratio referenced to rated output up to 20 kHz exceeds 114 dB, and balanced input impedance is 360 kilohm. The enclosure measures 470 x 825 x 317 mm (WDH).
Engineering and use context
Ninety-six output transistors make up the output stage. They are fed by a switch-mode supply with PFC that provides a stable 380 V rail at any AC voltage standard, with voltage and current held in phase under any speaker load. Constellation states that this approach reduces power-supply noise by more than 20 dB. A fully balanced, mirror-image input section uses paralleled amplification modules that lower noise by 5 dB, and it has its own three-stage, fully regulated power supply. An illuminated front meter shows amplifier output, while a titanium top grille handles heat dissipation. The 240-degree meter uses an accelerator circuit for musical peaks, a peak hold circuit and a logarithmic converter covering a 60 dB range, displaying power into 8 ohms from 0.0015 W to at least 1,500 W. It glows red in standby and blue when active, and a rear toggle disables the blue lighting. Power arrives through a 20 A AC input. A 3.5 mm trigger input accepts 6 to 45 V DC and can delay power-up by 4, 8 or 12 seconds, a trigger output allows a second amplifier to be daisy-chained, and turn-on surge current is below 0.5 A.
Pairing
Constellation recommends the higher gain setting for preamplifiers of moderate output and the lower gain setting, which lowers the noise floor, for those with high output, and advises against preamplifiers below the lower threshold. Stereo use calls for a pair, and the company states that two of them should not share one AC circuit.
Alternatives
The Constellation Performance 2 Monoblock is the single-channel amplifier of the Performance 2 series, rated at 1,200 W into 8 ohms.
