High-End Audio

High-end audio covers the top tier of Hi-Fi - components built with costly parts, heavy chassis and small-batch assembly. It matters to every buyer because many techniques first tried at this level later reach mainstream models and lower price tiers.

What high-end audio is & why it matters

The label refers less to a price point than to engineering latitude. Designers can use machined aluminium enclosures, separate power supplies, discrete output stages and hand-matched drivers. Speakers grow to five-way designs and several hundred kilograms, turntables use air bearings or massive platters, and DACs move to multi-chassis layouts. Prices climb into six figures, and such systems are often demonstrated by appointment.

What you'll find in this tag

Most items are launch reports - Wilson Audio Autobiography, YG Acoustics Titan, JBL Summit Everest and K2, TechDAS Air Force 20, Air Tight ATC-6 and Dan D'Agostino Momentum C2Z. Rankings list the costliest amplifiers, and an analysis looks at where the segment is heading. Show reports from Hong Kong and Vienna and a luxury headphone story from Hermès complete the selection.
