Cayin ID6 – Streamer, DAC, and Headphone Amplifier with a Vacuum Tube Stage

Cayin has announced the Cayin ID6, an all-in-one device that combines a streamer, a digital-to-analog converter (DAC), a headphone amplifier, and a preamplifier. A key feature of the Cayin ID6 is its integration of a modern digital platform with vacuum tube circuitry (utilizing 12AU7 tubes), offering users the ability to tailor the sound to their personal preferences.

The "Classic Tube" mode delivers a soft, warm sound, while "Modern Tube" offers greater openness and transparency. A third option, "Solid-State," engages a transistor-based signal path, focusing on highly accurate and neutral reproduction.

The digital section of the Cayin ID6 runs on two ESS Technologies ES9082Q chips - one for each channel. Of particular note is the fully discrete, four-channel balanced headphone amplifier, which allows for switching between Class A and Class AB operation. It delivers an output power of up to 4 watts per channel into a 16-ohm load. The device offers full access to streaming services, network connectivity via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, Bluetooth audio, and the ability to play files from external USB drives. There is also an option to install an internal M.2 NVMe SSD. The system supports bit-perfect digital audio streaming, ensuring that the original quality of high-resolution music files is preserved when using third-party applications.

For control, the Cayin ID6 features a 6" FHD+ touchscreen. The connectivity for the Cayin ID6 include balanced XLR inputs and outputs, unbalanced RCA connectors (including pre-amplifier outputs), a USB Audio digital input, an HDMI ARC interface, an I2S output, as well as coaxial and optical digital ports. The Cayin ID6 is available at a recommended retail price of $1,899 USD.
