The Confidence 50i is the taller of two floorstanders in the Confidence i range that Dynaudio announced in October 2026, where it stands above the Confidence 30i and the Confidence 20i bookshelf model. The i generation follows the Confidence line launched in 2018 and, according to Dynaudio, took eight years of development. Design and engineering were done in Denmark, with measurements in the Jupiter facility at Dynaudio Labs. Pairs finished in Blonde Wood or Ruby Wood High Gloss arrive in European shops from 24 November 2026 and worldwide in January 2027, and the Space High Gloss finish follows in early 2027.

Key specs that matter

Dynaudio fits five drivers in this passive three-way - a 28 mm Esotar3i soft-dome tweeter, two 15 cm MSP midrange units and two 18 cm MSP woofers. Crossover points are set at 400 Hz and 3,000 Hz with first-, second- and third-order slopes. Dynaudio quotes 37 Hz to 27 kHz within 3 dB, a sensitivity of 88 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, a rated impedance of 4 ohm and an IEC long-term power handling of 400 W. Each cabinet is 416 mm wide, 1,560 mm high and 472 mm deep including feet and grille, and weighs 49 kg.

Engineering and use context

A mirrored vertical array places the drivers, each woofer paired with its own midrange unit on either side of the tweeter. Around the tweeter, a machined waveguide forms the DDC Lens, now at version 3.0 of Dynaudio Directivity Control, and for the 50i it was reshaped to widen horizontal dispersion. The lens is part of a baffle made of Compex composite, which Dynaudio describes as rigid and heavily damped, while the cabinet walls are curved. The Esotar3i tweeter uses a Hexis inner dome against resonances and an updated motor with a reworked magnet system and different ferrofluid. The midrange cones end in a Horizon surround that follows the cone profile and mounts flush with the baffle, and their baskets were shaped by topology-optimisation simulation. The crossover was rebuilt with fewer parts, Duelund capacitors and a patent-pending UltraPrecision Array resistor with a tolerance band Dynaudio puts beyond ten times narrower than catalogue parts. A steel base-plate carries the down-firing reflex port, which fixes the distance between port and floor wherever the speaker stands.

Pairing

A four-ohm load combined with a long-term rating this high calls for transistor amplification, whether one stereo unit or two monoblocks, that delivers generous current into low impedances, while amplifiers specified only for 8-ohm loads are a poor match.

Alternatives

The Dynaudio Confidence 30i is the shorter tower of this generation and uses one 15 cm midrange driver instead of two.
