Floorstanding loudspeakers — Audio Physic CLASSIC 25

The Classic 25 is a floorstanding loudspeaker from Audio Physic, built with a distinctive Sandwich Cabinet Construction using back-painted glass panels bonded to an internal MDF core. This model succeeds the well-regarded Classic 20 and incorporates solutions, materials and technologies originally developed for Audio Physic's considerably pricier Reference Line, bringing that flagship-derived engineering close to the brand's top-tier acoustic performance at a more accessible price.

Key specs that matter

Rated response is 34Hz to 30kHz. Sensitivity is 89dB into a demanding 4 ohm load, with a recommended amplifier power of 20-120W. The three-way reflex-loaded design uses an 8-inch paper cone woofer, grown in diameter over the Classic 20's predecessor driver for improved low-end performance, housed as an invisible subwoofer in its own internal cabinet volume with the bass-reflex vent positioned at the base, opening toward the speaker's plinth. A piece of high-tech Ceramic Foam in front of this vent prevents the chuffing noises common to conventional bass-reflex designs. The midrange uses Audio Physic's unique Dual Basket Design with a woven glass-fibre diaphragm and a Phase Plug mounted directly onto the magnet motor for improved heat management, alongside a 22mm soft dome tweeter. At 1050 x 170 x 290mm and 27kg, the Sandwich Cabinet uses 2mm-thick elastic acrylate adhesive strips to bond the glass exterior panels to the MDF core - because glass and MDF have completely different resonance characteristics, and the elastic adhesive further damps vibration, unwanted cabinet sound becomes effectively a non-issue, with the defined gap between materials creating a double-glazing-like sound-insulation effect.

Sound and use context

Expect exceptionally transparent, spacious and deep reproduction with minimal cabinet coloration - an elegant tower well suited to a smaller living space, condo or apartment.

Pairing

The demanding 4 ohm load and recommended 20-120W range call for an amplifier with reasonable current delivery, though the moderate power ceiling keeps amplifier requirements accessible for most integrated amplifiers.

Alternatives

Audio Physic's Reference Line, including the Avanti 35, sits considerably above this model for buyers wanting the brand's absolute flagship engineering, worth the further investment if this Classic 25's already impressive performance still leaves ambitions unmet.
