YG Acoustics is a Colorado speaker company founded in 2002 by engineer Yoav Geva and based in Arvada, just outside Denver, Colorado. It is known for speakers whose cabinets and many driver parts are CNC-machined in-house from solid aluminium, and its range now stretches from compact bookshelf models to very large multi-tower systems.

Range & what it's known for

The current catalogue is split into four families. The Reference series includes the Carmel 3, Vesper 3, Vantage 3, Hailey 3 and Sonja models, plus the XV and XX systems. The Live series offers Vantage 3 Live, Sonja 3 Live and XX Live, while the Peaks line, with Cairn, Tor, Talus, Ascent, Summit and Descent, is the more affordable entry. The Titan sits in its own Ultimate tier. Geva developed the BilletCore machined aluminium cones in 2011 and the ToroAir toroidal air-core inductors, wound in-house, in 2010. Several model names honour his family - Sonja after his wife, Hailey after his daughter and Carmel after his son.

Who owns it and where it's made

Geva started the company in Israel, working from a rented former bomb shelter, and moved it to Arvada in 2004. He sold YG in 2017 and stayed on as chief engineer under CEO David Komatz until leaving in July 2020. Headquarters and the CNC machining facility are in Colorado, an R&D and measurement centre operates in Cambridge, UK, and the speakers are built in either the USA or the UK. About 99.5 percent of the aluminium it buys is recycled. Other in-house developments credited to Geva include the FocusedElimination of 2007, the ViseCoil of 2015 and the BilletDome of 2016.

The lineup in this catalog

Loudspeakers. A YG pair costs from roughly USD 20,000, and flagship XV-series systems go well past USD 300,000.

Who it's for

YG makes metal-bodied speakers built to tight machining tolerances for a buyer ready to spend serious money. Peaks models are the way in, the Reference line is the core step up, and the XV and Titan systems are for very large rooms and budgets.
