The Naia is a turntable from Rega, the result of years of refinement carried out on the company's Naiad test bed. It combines aerospace-grade plinth materials, a ceramic bearing, a titanium-bearing tonearm and a separate DSP power supply, and it can leave the factory with the Aphelion 2 moving coil cartridge fitted as an option.
Key specs that matter
Speeds of 33 and 45 rpm are delivered through belt drive, using a 24 V low noise motor and three EBLT drive belts. The platter is ceramic with a complex profile and an improved flywheel effect, sitting on a custom aluminium sub-platter. The fitted arm is the RB Titanium. With its dustcover the turntable measures 420 x 115 x 350 mm and weighs 4.65 kg, while the external power supply is 218 x 80 x 320 mm and weighs 3 kg. Rega covers the product with a lifetime limited warranty against manufacturing defects, which excludes wear and tear and consumable parts.
Engineering and use context
The skeletal plinth is made of graphene-impregnated carbon fibre around a Tancast 8 polyurethane foam core, a pairing meant to keep mass extremely low while staying rigid. Two braces of ceramic aluminium oxide, the same material as the platter, sit on the top and bottom of the plinth, forming what Rega calls a stressed beam assembly under its Double Brace Technology. Low mass skeletal aluminium feet support the structure. The spindle and bearing are made of ZTA, a zirconium toughened alumina originally developed for industrial paper machinery. Production involves spray drying, isostatic pressing, turning in the green state, firing at 1600 degrees Celsius for three days, then grinding and final honing, and each spindle stays paired with its own bearing as a set. An ultra-thin layer of fully synthetic oil lubricates the assembly. The belts use a bespoke rubber compound developed over three years with chemists. The reference power supply is built around a DSP generator driven by a high stability crystal, with electronic speed change, fully adjustable fine speed control and anti-vibration control.
Pairing
The RB Titanium arm has a one-piece titanium vertical bearing and titanium vertical spindle assembly, a hand-polished single-piece aluminium arm tube and a tungsten shaft and balance weight. The optional Aphelion 2 is a moving coil design using a cantilever of boron with a nude diamond of fine-line profile, so buyers who take it will need a phono stage with moving coil input.
Alternatives
The Rega Planar 10 is another turntable in the range with an RB3000 arm, a Tancast 8 foam plinth and its own P10 power supply.
