The Ingenium SE is a turntable with belt drive made by AVID HiFi, the British company that builds its decks around suspended subchassis and clamped records. It succeeds the Ingenium Plug and Play and adds an external power supply and a new motor system derived from the AVID Relveo. AVID announced worldwide availability from June 2026 at EUR 3,595 for the base version, EUR 3,995 with the metal platter and EUR 5,995 fully upgraded with both the larger power supply and the heavier platter.

Key specs that matter

Playback runs at 33.3 or 45 rpm. The standard platter weighs 2.5 kg and is made of MDF, while the optional solid aluminium platter raises the mass to 5.5 kg. The turntable body is 370 mm wide, 305 mm deep and 130 mm high and weighs 5.9 kg. The standard power supply measures 160 x 160 x 60 mm at 1.5 kg, and the upgrade unit is 160 x 290 x 60 mm at 2.3 kg. Mains input is 100 to 240 V at 50 or 60 Hz, and consumption stays under 4 W.

Engineering and use context

Rotation is provided by a 24 V AC synchronous motor with 12 mNm torque, housed in its own machined enclosure. It is fed from the external box, which contains a purpose designed mains transformer and dedicated control electronics so that the motor receives a stable supply. The main bearing is an inverted stainless steel design with a thrust point of tungsten carbide running on sapphire. An elastomer suspension, with a Sorbothane option, isolates the deck from external vibration, and the AVID screw clamp couples the record to the platter. The supplied AVID TA-3 tonearm has an effective mass of 11 g, an effective length of 236.5 mm, an offset angle of 21.55 degrees and an overhang of 14.5 mm. Bias is adjustable, the arm cable has a capacitance of 80 pF, and it ends in gold plated Neutrik RCA plugs.

Pairing

With an 11 g effective mass the TA-3 arm is classed as low mass, which suits cartridges of medium to high compliance, whether moving magnet or moving coil. The RCA termination connects to any external phono stage, and the low cable capacitance keeps the load on a moving magnet cartridge within typical recommended limits. Upgrading the power supply or the platter later needs no change to the arm or cartridge, so a buyer can start with the base version and add the heavier parts as a second step.
