The PH 3.3 is the fully transistorised member of a pair of modular phono preamplifiers that AVM added to its Evolution series in September 2026. The company builds it by hand at its factory in Malsch, Baden-Württemberg, and every unit is inspected and run in for several days before it leaves. The announced European price is EUR 4,990 in the silver and black versions.

Key specs that matter

Cartridges of moving magnet and moving coil type can both be connected. Basic sensitivity moves in five steps between -10 dB and +10 dB. Moving coil loading offers six impedance values, and moving magnet users get six capacitance values. Six equalisation curves are selectable, so older pre-RIAA pressings get a fitting de-emphasis. A subsonic filter at 30 Hz can be switched in or out, and there are mono and stereo modes plus phase inversion. Outputs come in two forms, balanced XLR delivering up to 14 V and unbalanced RCA up to 7 V. The RCA phono inputs have ground terminals, and a 15 V, 1.5 A supply output is provided for a turntable. The case is 43 cm wide, in line with other full-size Evolution components.

Engineering and use context

AVM describes the final amplification stage as transistor-based and developed with a particular focus on low noise, which matters most with low-output moving coil cartridges whose output is very small. The chassis has one expansion slot that takes an optional input module, offered as MC XLR, MC RCA or MM RCA, so a second turntable or tonearm can be connected, including a balanced moving coil arm run over XLR. All the main parameters, meaning gain, loading, phase and the subsonic filter, are adjustable at the fascia or via the supplied RC 3 PH aluminium remote control while seated. That lets the owner compare cartridge load values without reaching behind the unit. Finishes are aluminium silver and brushed black, with a CELLINI Edition carrying a hand-polished chrome fascia as a further choice. AVM had not yet published full data sheets at launch, so weight and power consumption were not listed.

Pairing

Offering XLR plus RCA outputs, the PH 3.3 connects to amplification with either input type, and the XLR route suits AVM's own Evolution line stages and integrateds of the same full-size format. The turntable supply output lets a compatible deck draw power from the phono stage instead of a separate wall adapter.

Alternatives

The AVM Evolution PH 5.3 shares the same chassis and adjustment options but replaces the transistor output stage with an AVM valve line stage and costs EUR 5,990.
