The Ovation MP 6.3 (sold in pure CD form as the CD 6.3) belongs to AVM's Ovation line, the German maker's upper range positioned above the Evolution series. It is a CD player with an integrated network streamer, built entirely on solid-state circuitry, while its sister models, the MP 8.3 and CD 8.3, add AVM's Ovation 803 T tube line stage. Like other Ovation components, it is delivered in an AVM flight case.
Key specs that matter
Disc playback uses a TEAC Pure CD drive supplied exclusively to AVM, with slot-in loading and a spring-mounted mechanism. Digital inputs are two coaxial S/PDIF, two optical, one AES/EBU and one asynchronous, galvanically isolated USB-B, which also accepts DSD128. Signal processing runs at up to 24-bit/192kHz, with selectable upsampling or downsampling of all incoming signals and a choice of smooth or steep digital filters. Analogue signals leave through XLR and RCA sockets, alongside coaxial and optical digital outputs and two 3.5mm trigger outputs. Signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 110dB and distortion is below 0.001%. Network connection is by Ethernet or dual-band Wi-Fi, with Bluetooth 5.0. The chassis measures 430 x 130 x 355mm and weighs 11kg.
Engineering and use context
AVM separates the CD drive from the audio electronics inside the chassis and uses a power supply designed for low stray magnetic fields, keeping motor and supply noise away from the conversion and output stages. The spring-mounted TEAC drive is isolated from vibration and was chosen for precise, durable disc reading. Resampling all incoming data to a single chosen rate lets the DAC always work at the same sample rate regardless of source. The galvanic isolation of the USB input breaks the electrical connection to a computer, preventing its ground noise from entering the player. On the network side, the MP 6.3 supports AirPlay 2, Roon Ready, Spotify Connect, Qobuz, TIDAL Connect, HIGHRESAUDIO and UPnP, plus web radio through the Airable database, and it joins AVM's multiroom and party-sync mode with other RC X app-compatible AVM models. The RC X smartphone app handles control, and a large, dimmable blue graphic display shows status and allows inputs to be renamed.
Pairing
The balanced XLR and RCA outputs connect to any preamplifier or integrated amplifier, and the MP 6.3 pairs visually and electrically with AVM's Ovation amplification. The multiple digital inputs let it serve as the DAC for a TV, network transport or computer as well, and trigger outputs switch connected components on and off.
Alternatives
AVM's own Ovation MP 8.3 adds the Ovation 803 T tube line stage to the same disc and streaming platform.
