The MP 30.3 is a compact streaming CD receiver in the AVM30 range from AVM Audio Video Manufaktur of Malsch, Germany. It pairs a slot-in CD drive with the AVM X-Stream Engine, a converter module developed by AVM and an analogue output section with its own level control. An OLED screen shows the status, and the RC 3 full aluminium remote comes with it.

Key specs that matter

On the variable pre-out AVM specifies unity gain, 3.4 kOhm input impedance and 470 ohm output impedance, distortion below 0.001% and a signal-to-noise ratio beyond 100 dB. Frequency response at -3 dB extends from under 5 Hz to over 80 kHz. Channel separation is greater than 95 dB and separation between inputs greater than 85 dB, with 3.5 V input headroom and 3 V output headroom at 1% THD. The fixed line output has a 47 ohm source impedance and 3.5 V of headroom. The drive reads CD Audio and CD-R made to the Red Book standard, covering 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Width is 430 mm, height 115 mm and depth 310 mm, and the player weighs 6.7 kg.

Engineering and use context

Supported streaming routes are AirPlay 2, Qobuz, Spotify Connect, HighResAudio, TIDAL Connect MAX, UPnP and web radio, and the MP 30.3 is Roon Ready. UPnP and DLNA support lets it play a digital library stored on the local network, including DSD256 material, and the file list takes in WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, DSD, AAC, Ogg and MP3. Control is possible from an app for iOS and Android as well as from the remote. The rear panel holds an HDMI ARC input rated to 192 kHz and 24 bit with 100 ohm impedance, a 75 ohm coaxial input at up to 192 kHz and 24 bit and an optical input at up to 96 kHz and 24 bit, both with automatic de-emphasis. A digital recorder or external DAC can be fed from the coaxial and optical outputs at the same rates. A USB 2.0 socket supplies 500 mA and reads only hard drives and memory sticks in FAT16, FAT32 or NTFS format. The network connection is 100 Mbit/s wired Ethernet, which can be plugged in while running, or WLAN to 802.11ac on 2.4 and 5 GHz with two antennas and WPS, and Bluetooth 5.0 LE handles the AVRCP 1.5 and A2DP profiles. The housing is solid aluminium. Standby draw is below 0.5 W, standby with the network active below 2 W and idle below 16 W, protected by a T 3.15A H fuse. AVM gives 2 years of warranty, plus another 2 years after online product registration.

The variable output lets the MP 30.3 drive a power amplifier directly, making a two-box system without a separate preamplifier.
