The Heritage CD200 is a CD player from YBA of France, presented by the maker as an updated version of its earlier CD player with a new DAC section and modernised digital inputs. YBA describes it as both a CD player and a standalone DAC for a hi-fi system or a computer. Supported discs include CD-R and CD-RW alongside standard CD, and finishes are black or silver. YBA announced the model in December 2021 as a Heritage range update to the CD100. The case measures 430 x 372 x 118 mm and the player weighs 7.9 kg.

Key specs that matter

A Cirrus Logic WM8741 chip handles digital to analogue conversion. The unbalanced output delivers 2 V through RCA sockets and the balanced output delivers 4 V through XLR sockets. Rated SNR is 108 dB at the RCA sockets against 113 dB at the XLR sockets, a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz at -0.5 dB, and THD+N under 0.001% over the audio band. The USB input uses an XMOS XU208 receiver that accepts 24-bit and 192 kHz PCM as well as DSD64 files, and the coaxial and optical S/PDIF inputs also work up to 24-bit and 192 kHz.

Engineering and use context

The CD200 keeps the Philips CD80 drive of the earlier Heritage CD100 and puts its changes into the converter and input sections. The CD100 had one coaxial input and a USB port, while the CD200 adds an optical input and a newer USB receiver with DSD playback, so more external sources can share its DAC. The toggle switches used for transport control remain, and a coaxial digital output is still present on the rear panel. An R-Core transformer feeds its linear mains supply. The rear layout groups the XLR and RCA outputs with the coaxial output, the two S/PDIF inputs and the Type-B USB socket, so a single unit can handle discs, a computer and digital outputs from a television or streamer.

Pairing

Amplifiers with balanced inputs can take the XLR feed and its lower noise figure, and single-ended amplifiers connect to the gold-plated RCA pair instead. Since the digital inputs share the internal converter, one CD200 can replace a separate DAC in a compact system. A computer connects through the Type-B USB port for file playback including DSD, while the optical socket suits a television and the coaxial socket a streamer. The coaxial output lets an owner send the disc data to another converter when needed.

Alternatives

In the same Heritage series YBA also offered the lighter CD100, which uses a Wolfson WM8740 converter and has a USB input and a single coaxial input.
