The DP-570S is an SACD/CD player from the Japanese maker Accuphase and the fifth generation of its DP-570 line. It replaces the DP-570 of 2020, keeping the same case size while bringing an improved SACD/CD drive and lower distortion and noise figures. Its digital inputs let other sources use the internal DAC, and its digital outputs let the drive feed another converter. The European list price is EUR 10,570.

Key specs that matter

Conversion is built around the ESS ES9028PRO 32-bit HyperStream II Sabre chip, the same DAC Accuphase uses in the DP-770. Of the eight converters inside the chip, four run in parallel for each channel under the MDS+ system. Signal-to-noise ratio is guaranteed at 121 dB, and guaranteed output noise drops to 2.2 microvolts from the 2.5 microvolts of the DP-570, about 12 percent lower. Measured THD plus noise at low frequencies is around 30 percent below the older model. The USB-B input handles PCM up to 384 kHz and 32-bit, plus DSD at 11.2 MHz via DoP and 22.5 MHz via ASIO. HS-LINK version 2 carries up to 384 kHz 32-bit PCM and 5.6 MHz DSD, coaxial runs to 192 kHz 24-bit and optical to 96 kHz 24-bit, and each of these three is present as both input and output. The case is 465 mm wide, 151 mm tall and 393 mm deep and weighs 18.4 kg, which is 0.6 kg less than its predecessor.

Engineering and use context

Everything after the DAC stage runs in balanced form, and every output has its own five-pole Butterworth low-pass filter, so the line and balanced signals remain separate in what Accuphase calls a Direct Balanced Filter. ANCC, the Accuphase Noise and distortion Canceling Circuit, sits in the I-V converter, where a detection amplifier picks up noise and distortion components and injects a cancelling current of opposite polarity. The drive is mounted on a solid chassis for a low centre of gravity, and the laser pickup rests on absorbers made of a specially chosen rubber. Analogue and digital circuits draw on their own dedicated windings of the power transformer, and custom filter capacitors of 15,000 microfarads each follow it. The front display reads out sampling frequency and bit depth, and data discs with WAV, FLAC, DSF or DSDIFF files are playable. A balanced output phase selector and programmable playlists are also fitted.

Pairing

Balanced and unbalanced analogue outputs are both provided, so the player suits fully balanced preamplifiers as well as integrated amplifiers with single-ended inputs. HS-LINK links the player to other Accuphase components fitted with that interface, and the digital outputs can link to an Accuphase voicing equalizer.

The earlier Accuphase DP-570 offers the same chassis size and DAC chip in the previous generation.
