The DP-1000 is a Precision SA-CD/CD transport from Accuphase, released in December 2021 and designed as the partner for the DC-1000 Precision MDSD digital processor. It contains no digital to analogue converter, so its whole design concentrates on reading discs and delivering the data in digital form. Accuphase presents the DP-1000 as the result of fifty years of work on the ideal disc transport, and it sits above the earlier DP-950 transport in the company's history.

Key specs that matter

The DP-1000 plays SA-CD and CD, as well as data discs, including discs carrying DSD files. Digital outputs are an HS-LINK connection, switchable between Version 1 and Version 2, and a coaxial output. An AHDL-15 HS-LINK cable is supplied. The drive assembly is machined from aluminium and weighs 7.2 kg, and it sits on a base plate of 3.8 kg. The disc is turned by an outer-rotor brushless DC motor. Two separate toroidal transformers supply the mechanism and the signal processing circuits, and ten 4,700 µF filter capacitors smooth the power supply. The unit sits on a 12 mm machined aluminium bottom plate and high-carbon cast-iron insulators, and the side panels of the cabinet are mirror-finished natural wood.

Engineering and use context

A transport has to read the pits on a spinning disc with as few errors and as little timing disturbance as possible, and most of the DP-1000's construction targets vibration. The high-rigidity drive is milled from solid aluminium rather than pressed from sheet, which raises its mass and stiffness. Newly developed dampers of different strengths protect the pickup from vibration, and the drive is placed low in the chassis within a reinforced frame to lower the centre of gravity. Separate transformers for the mechanism and the digital circuits stop the current drawn by the motor and servo from reaching the signal section. HS-LINK is Accuphase's own digital interface that carries DSD and high-rate PCM between its transports and converters, and switching between Version 1 and Version 2 keeps the DP-1000 compatible with older Accuphase DACs. Programmable playlists allow tracks to be played in any order, a power-on play function starts playback with an external timer, and a digital connection to an Accuphase voicing equalizer is supported.

Pairing

The DC-1000 is the intended converter, connected through the supplied HS-LINK cable so that SA-CD data reaches the processor in DSD form. Other Accuphase DACs and integrated amplifiers with HS-LINK inputs also accept the signal, while the coaxial output carries CD audio to converters from other makers.
