The Vestra W10 is the most compact subwoofer in Monitor Audio's Vestra range, a line of three powered subwoofers designed for home cinema and music systems of all sizes. It pairs a 10-inch driver with a sealed enclosure and is intended both as a single sub for smaller two-channel or multichannel systems and for use in multiples, where several subwoofers spread bass more evenly across a room.
Key specs that matter
The Vestra W10 uses a 10-inch (254mm) C-CAM high linear-excursion driver in a sealed enclosure, powered by a 250W high-efficiency Class D amplifier. In-room frequency response is 19Hz to 200Hz (-6dB), and maximum usable peak output is 111dB (CTA-2010-B, half-space). The low-pass filter adjusts from 32Hz to 200Hz, phase switches between 0 and 180 degrees, and input impedance is 47 kilohms. Inputs are stereo RCA and a dedicated LFE RCA, plus a 12V trigger on a 3.5mm mono jack. The cabinet measures 344 x 330 x 360mm and weighs 13.3kg, in matte black or matte white, and Monitor Audio gives a five-year warranty.
Engineering and use context
The C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) cone is the same driver technology used throughout the Vestra line, giving a stiff yet light diaphragm that keeps moving as a piston at high excursion, and the motor is designed for high linear excursion so the cone can travel far with low distortion. Monitor Audio did not simply scale down the 500W module of the larger W12 and W15 - the W10 has a dedicated 250W amplifier and power supply matched to its smaller driver. Like the W12, it uses a sealed cabinet rather than the ported design of the larger W15. A sealed box gives a gentler roll-off and makes the subwoofer less sensitive to placement near walls and furniture. The cabinet is built from 15mm MDF with internal bracing and a reinforced front baffle, and stands on threaded rubber feet. The subwoofer switches on automatically when a signal is detected and goes into standby when the signal stops. Its compact, cube-like footprint makes it practical to use two or more in one room.
Pairing
An AV receiver's sub out feeds the dedicated LFE input, while the stereo inputs and wide filter range suit stereo amplifiers with pre-outs. It is sized for small to medium rooms, or larger rooms when used in pairs.
Alternatives
Monitor Audio's own Silver W-12 6G offers a 12-inch driver and 500W amplifier for larger rooms and higher output.
