The Elipson Sub 12 is the middle model of the company's newest subwoofer family, announced in September 2025 as the replacement for the Prestige Facet series. Elipson aims it at medium to large rooms and built it for the playback of both music and film soundtracks. Elipson developed the unit at its base in the Val-de-Marne region of France and launched it at EUR 899, or GBP 799 in the UK, with two years of manufacturer warranty.
Key specs that matter
A 300 mm driver with a fibreglass cone works with a 500 W class D amplifier. Rated response extends from 22 Hz to 200 Hz within 3 dB. Measured with grille and feet the enclosure is 41 cm wide, 45.2 cm high and 49.2 cm deep, or 41 x 43 x 48 cm without them, and the weight is 27 kg. It is supplied in black.
Engineering and use context
Like its two siblings, the Sub 12 uses a bass-reflex cabinet with a port firing out of the front baffle. A laminar chicane inside the port acts as an acoustic guide to stabilise airflow and reduce turbulence and compression. Front porting allows placement close to the wall behind it. The built-in DSP applies a 3 dB lift at 28 Hz, and a subsonic filter at 23 Hz with a slope of 12 dB per octave limits cone travel on signals below the useful band. Low-pass frequency is variable from 30 Hz to 200 Hz, phase switches between 0 and 180 degrees, and automatic standby shuts the amplifier down when idle. On the connection panel are L and R line inputs, an LFE input and L and R line outputs, so the subwoofer can join a stereo chain or take the dedicated sub feed of a surround system. Compared with the Sub 10, the Sub 12 gains a 50 mm larger cone, 200 W more amplifier power and 5 Hz deeper rated extension, and it carries 9 kg more weight than the smaller unit. At launch it sat EUR 200 above the smaller sibling and EUR 500 below the largest one in the European price list.
Pairing
In a surround system the LFE socket is fed from the bass pre-out of a receiver or processor, where the receiver's own bass management already sets the crossover. In a two-channel setup a stereo preamplifier drives the line inputs, and the line outputs can pass the signal on to a power amplifier. Its size suits rooms from around 20 m2 upward where the smaller model would run out of headroom.
Alternatives
The Elipson Sub 15 steps up to a 380 mm driver and 650 W with response rated down to 19 Hz in a 41 kg cabinet.
