As the 8-inch entry of the first-generation Power Sub line, the Power Sub 8 gives Canton's GLE range an active bass unit with an 8-inch class driver for rooms and budgets where the Power Sub 10 or 12 would be too much. Canton, based in Weilrod in Hesse, sells it in Germany for EUR 599 per piece. It is finished in matt black or matt white decor, and its cloth front, held magnetically, has the same softly rounded corners as its bigger siblings.

Low frequencies are produced by a 219 mm titanium woofer facing forward, helped by an MDF passive membrane of the same size in the floor panel. Power figures are 200 W rated and 280 W music. Engineering and use context

Canton applies the same recipe here as in the larger models, a bass reflex cabinet loaded by a downfire passive radiator instead of a port. The drive unit gets a generously sized motor and a wave surround with multiple folds, designed for longer excursion and less distortion than a regular surround would permit. Canton's SC technology shields the sub from damage caused by overdriving and holds distortion down. For positioning near walls or in corners, a room compensation circuit adjusts the bass reproduction in three steps. Volume, phase and crossover each have their own control, so the sub can be matched to Canton or third-party speakers, and an auto standby function brings it to life when the source starts. Signal can arrive at line level through two RCA sockets, the usual route from a surround receiver, and a further RCA jack sends it onward to another device.
