The PB-1000 Pro is the ported model of the SVS 1000 Pro series, announced on 26 February 2021 at USD 599, with the sealed SB-1000 Pro launched beside it at USD 499. SVS presented the series as a full rework of the driver, amplifier and cabinet compared with the earlier 1000 models, and as a way to bring DSP hardware that had been reserved for its bigger subwoofers down to this price level. It ships direct from the company in the United States, sells in the UK at GBP 949, and comes in Black Ash with a fabric grille in the box.
Key specs that matter
A newly designed 12 inch high-excursion woofer is driven by the Sledge STA-325D amplifier, rated at 325 W RMS and more than 820 W peak. The front-ported enclosure is specified from 17 Hz to 260 Hz within 3 dB. The cabinet stands 479 mm tall, 380 mm wide and 509 mm deep, and the whole unit weighs 19.3 kg. Filtering runs on a 50 MHz Analog Devices audio DSP at 56-bit precision. The rear panel carries stereo RCA line inputs with matching outputs, speaker-level inputs, a 3 to 12 V trigger input and a USB Type A socket.
Engineering and use context
The woofer cone is aluminium with vent holes and a composite fibre dust cap, a light and stiff combination, while a motor with two ferrite magnets and a long-throw parabolic surround let it travel far without losing control. In the amplifier, discrete MOSFET output transistors deliver high current inside a compact Class D topology. The port opens on the front baffle, and the MDF cabinet has rounded edges that make it look smaller than its volume. Two tunings are available - Standard, with the ports open for the highest maximum output, and Sealed, with foam plugs inserted for the best transient response, and SVS supplies the plugs on request. Everything else is adjusted over Bluetooth from the SVS app for iOS and Android. The low-pass filter runs from 30 Hz to 200 Hz in 1 Hz steps with slopes of 6, 12, 18 or 24 dB per octave, phase moves from 0 to 180 degrees in single-degree steps, and parametric EQ covers 20 Hz to 200 Hz. Three presets are labelled movie, music and custom. Volume, low-pass and phase also have buttons on the unit, and an Auto/On selector sets standby behaviour. The USB socket handles firmware updates.
Pairing
An AV receiver connects to the RCA input from its LFE output, and the line outputs let a second subwoofer be chained. A stereo amplifier with no subwoofer output can feed the speaker-level inputs, while the trigger lets a processor switch the unit on and off. The USB port also powers the SVS SoundPath Wireless Audio Adapter, which removes the signal cable.
