The Impact X 15 is the 15-inch model of the Velodyne Acoustics Impact X series of powered subwoofers, joining the 10-inch Impact X 10 and the 12-inch Impact X 12. Engineering and use context

Velodyne builds the woofer for high excursion, with a double-vented basket and a convex polypropylene membrane. Twin ferrite magnets form its motor, and the coil they drive has four winding layers on a 76 mm former. The enclosure is built from 22 mm MDF, with the front panel thickened to 30 mm. Where the smaller models in the series can vent their port downward or to the rear, the 15-inch version uses its dedicated slot on the back panel. The amplifier includes anti-clipping circuitry intended to limit distortion, and nine DSP modes are provided. A power selector switches between off, auto and on, so the unit can wake itself when a signal arrives. Velodyne specifies 600 watts of maximum power for the two smaller models in the range.

Inputs are provided at line level and at speaker level. Line-level connection runs through gold-plated RCA sockets marked stereo and LFE, suited to the sub out of a home theater receiver or to a two-channel preamp, while nickel-plated high-level inputs take a feed from amplifier speaker terminals when no dedicated sub output exists. Gold-plated stereo and LFE RCA outputs pass the signal on, which allows a second subwoofer or another device to be chained from the same source. The wide crossover range lets the low-pass point follow the bass limit of main speakers from compact monitors up to full-range towers.
