Сабвуферы — Mordaunt-Short Aviano 7

The Aviano 7 is an active subwoofer from the Aviano series of Mordaunt-Short, the British loudspeaker maker founded in 1967 whose base through the 1980s was Durford Mill in Petersfield. The company was bought in 1987 by TGI, then also the owner of Tannoy and Goodmans, and in 1999 passed to Audio Partnership, which set up a new research and development centre for it. The model dates from 2009, two years before the Aviano 8 floorstander joined the family and one year before the Performance 2 range appeared as the brand's top line. The sub was sold both on its own and as the bass unit of a complete home cinema system built around the compact Aviano 1 speakers, and it was offered in black, dark walnut and rosewood vinyl wraps.

Key specs that matter

One 10 inch long-throw woofer with an aluminium cone is powered by a 175 W RMS amplifier of the switching, or digital, type. Rated response runs from 35 Hz to 200 Hz, and the active low-pass crossover is variable over the whole span from 50 Hz up to 200 Hz. The line input reaches maximum output with a 200 mV signal. At full load the unit draws up to 360 W from the mains. The enclosure is 423 mm high, 305 mm wide and 361 mm deep, and it weighs 17.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

The driver belongs to Mordaunt-Short's CPC family, short for Continuous Profile Cone, and here the cone is anodised aluminium, a material chosen because it is both stiff and light. The driver faces forward, while the reflex port is placed in the bottom panel of the vented cabinet, so the support feet have to stay fitted for the port to work as intended. Controls cover output level and an Auto mode that powers the unit up when a signal arrives and puts it back to standby once the signal stops. Connection is by line level only, through stereo RCA input and output sockets, and the filter has no bypass switch. The installation guide packed with it covers eight languages, from English and German to Swedish and Russian.

Pairing

With an AV receiver, a single RCA lead from the receiver's subwoofer output goes to the left Line In socket. A stereo amplifier can only feed the Aviano 7 if it provides preamplifier outputs, because speaker-level terminals are absent. The most direct system match comes from the Aviano 1 standmounts it was bundled with, and the same series also includes the Aviano 2 standmount and the Aviano 6 and Aviano 8 floorstanders.

Alternatives

The Mordaunt-Short Alumni 9 is a smaller subwoofer with an 8 inch long-throw CPC woofer and a 120 W amplifier.
