The ASUB is a powered subwoofer from Magico, built to add low-frequency reinforcement to the brand's A-series loudspeakers such as the A3 and A5. The ASUB made its debut in May 2019 during the Munich High End event at USD 6,500, and later price lists show it at USD 7,800 in black and USD 8,200 in silver, while one European price sits between EUR 9,700 and EUR 10,140, with an optional grille adding EUR 440.

Key specs that matter

A single newly developed 10-inch Magico driver fires forward from the front panel. Its cone is made of aluminium chosen for a high stiffness-to-weight ratio, and the motor uses a 55 mm voice coil of pure titanium. Magico states that the driver can produce 50 Hz at 110 dB with minimal distortion. An internal digital amplifier supplies 500 W, and the rated frequency range runs from 20 Hz to 120 Hz. The input panel carries RCA and XLR sockets, with an impedance of 54 kohm on the RCA pair and 44 kohm on the XLR pair. The cabinet measures 457 mm high, 368 mm wide and 447 mm deep, and the unit weighs 49 kg.

Engineering and use context

Instead of wood or MDF, the enclosure is built from 9.5 mm thick 6061 T6 aluminium and is fully braced inside, the same metal-cabinet approach Magico applies to its passive speakers. The black version has a brushed and anodised surface. Crossover filtering is handled digitally by an active network inside the sub, and a DSP control centre manages the settings. Three memory presets let an owner store separate configurations, for example one for stereo music and one for a film system fed from an AV processor. Signal auto-detect and auto-shutdown functions manage standby, while anti-clip and thermal protection circuits guard the driver and the amplifier against overload. The combination of a 10-inch driver, a compact footprint and a heavy braced metal box targets owners who want extra bass extension without a large cabinet in the room.

Pairing

Because the ASUB has its own amplification and crossover, it takes a line-level feed rather than a speaker-level connection. The balanced XLR input suits preamplifiers and processors with balanced subwoofer or main outputs, while the RCA input covers integrated amplifiers and receivers that offer only single-ended pre-outs. Magico positions the model as the bass extension for its A-series floorstanders, whose own low-frequency limit it can supplement below their woofers.

Alternatives

For far higher output, Magico also offers the Titan 15, which uses two opposed 15-inch drivers driven by two 3,200 W Class D amplifiers and is rated from 10 Hz to 150 Hz.
