The X DIAMOND Signature Edition is a three-way tower speaker made by Estelon, the brand of the Tallinn company Alfred & Partners in Estonia. Estelon presents it as the final evolution of its X Diamond concept, and it brings a diamond tweeter, custom Accuton drivers and an in-house connector system to the X series.

Key specs that matter

Three drivers are custom-designed with Accuton - a 280 mm ceramic sandwich woofer, a 173 mm ceramic membrane mid-woofer and a 25 mm diamond inverted dome tweeter. Estelon quotes a range of 23 Hz to 60,000 Hz, linear to 33,000 Hz. Nominal impedance is 6 ohm with a minimum of 3.5 ohm at 63 Hz, and sensitivity is 87 dB at 2.83 V. The power rating is 200 W. Each speaker stands 1370 mm tall, 450 mm wide and 640 mm deep and weighs 86 kg net. Estelon suggests rooms of 25 to 80 m2 for this model.

Engineering and use context

Its cabinet is cast from a proprietary marble-based composite, with flowing curves and no flat or parallel surfaces inside or outside. Every driver has its own chamber. The woofer works in a bass reflex chamber with a rear port and is mounted low on the cabinet, because Estelon treats low frequencies as behaving like atmospheric pressure and aims for even bass distribution, and the two upper drivers are grouped above it in a vertical line. The tweeter occupies an isolated enclosure with a shaped surrounding surface to control its dispersion. All three drivers are mounted on a curved front panel so that their output reaches the listening position at the same time. Internal damping material is placed chamber by chamber. The crossover has its own isolated chamber and uses second-order slopes with crossover points at 86 Hz and 2 kHz. This edition introduces a connector system developed in-house and modelled on piano keys - spring-loaded terminals that carry the signal on copper foil ribbons and so remove several metal-to-metal contacts from the path. Each cabinet is painted and polished by hand in a multi-layer process that takes several weeks, with Black Lava and Blue Cobalt among the Liquid Gloss colours and custom finishes available on request.

Pairing

Estelon sets the minimum amplifier power at 30 W. Because the impedance dips in the bass region, the amplifier should be one that remains stable into that lower load.

In the same X series Estelon also builds the XB Mk II, a smaller three-way tower with a 220 mm woofer and a net weight of 69 kg.
