The X Diamond is a three-way floorstander from Estelon, the company founded in Estonia in 2010 by designer Alfred Vassilkov. It sits in the X Series and combines Accuton ceramic cones with an Accuton diamond tweeter in a marble-based composite cabinet whose sculpted shape defines Estelon's look. The current version is the X Diamond Mk II.
Key specs that matter
Drivers are a 280 mm Accuton ceramic sandwich woofer, a 173 mm Accuton ceramic mid-woofer and a 25 mm Accuton diamond inverted-dome tweeter. Frequency response is 22 Hz to 60 kHz, sensitivity is 88 dB at 2.83 V and nominal impedance is 6 ohms, with a minimum of 3.8 ohms at 55 Hz. It is rated for 200 W, and Estelon sets 20 W as the lowest usable amplifier power. The speaker measures 1370 mm high, 450 mm wide and 640 mm deep and weighs 86 kg. Estelon recommends rooms of 25 to 80 m2.
Engineering and use context
Diamond combines very high stiffness with very low moving mass, so the tweeter's first break-up mode lies far above the audible range and output extends to 60 kHz. The inverted dome places the voice coil near the plane of the baffle, which helps align its output in time with the cones. The woofer uses a ceramic sandwich construction to add stiffness across its larger diameter, and the 173 mm mid-woofer uses a solid ceramic membrane. The bass is reflex loaded. Estelon moulds the enclosure in its marble-based composite, dense enough to damp panel resonances, and its curved walls avoid the parallel surfaces that support standing waves. The cabinet also narrows towards the top, placing the tweeter in a small, low-diffraction section, while the base houses the large woofer. Estelon designs the filter network itself and wires it with Kubala-Sosna conductors. The crossover points are 75 Hz with a third-order slope and 2 kHz at second order. The Mk II crossover uses Mundorf Supreme resistors and SilverGold oil film capacitors. Standard finishes are Black Lava Liquid Gloss and White Gloss, custom paint is available, and Estelon gives a five-year warranty.
Pairing
Because its impedance minimum falls in the bass, where energy is highest, the X Diamond benefits from solid-state amplifiers of 100 W or more that remain stable into low impedance, and current capability matters more than rated power.
Alternatives
Estelon's XA is the earlier X Series floorstander that established the company's design language.
