The Wizard S7 Special Edition, or Wizard S7SE, is the entry tower of the Series 7 Special Edition range by Richter, an Australian brand that designs and builds these speakers in Sydney. The range was shaped by designer Adam Hobbs together with engineer Dr Martin Gosnell and also includes the Dragon S7SE, the Excalibur S7SE and the Aurora S7SE bookshelf due in Q2 2026. The Wizard lists at AUD 5,999 or NZD 7,499 per pair and carries a 5-year warranty.

Key specs that matter

It is a 3.5-way floorstander. At the top is the SE Teardrop array, a 25 mm soft-dome neodymium tweeter together with a 70 mm soft-dome midrange. Beneath are one 165 mm mid-bass unit and one 165 mm bass unit with extra excursion, both with composite paper cones, the latter with a larger voice coil. Richter gives 26 Hz to 30 kHz at the minus 6 dB points and 89 dB sensitivity at 2.83 V and 1 m on axis. Impedance is 6 ohm nominal with a 4.5 ohm minimum. Recommended amplification is 100 to 200 W RMS, preferably from a high-current amplifier specified for 4 ohm. With grille and stabilisers the cabinet measures 285 mm wide, 1,006 mm tall and 392 mm deep, and each unit weighs 20.7 kg.

Engineering and use context

Richter vents the box through one port on the back panel, supplied with foam plugs for tuning the bass. The 3.5-way crossover has dedicated circuits for the tweeter, the mid-dome and the two lower drivers, built with polypropylene capacitors and air-cored and ferrite-cored inductors. Mid-bass cones are rigid paper pulp held in cast-alloy baskets. Bi-wire terminals use heavy-duty nickel-plated posts that accept banana plugs, spades, pins and bare cable. Cabinets come in natural walnut veneer, set off by a front baffle in matte Grey Anthracite. Because of the rear port, the foam plugs give a way to adapt it when placed closer to a wall in a room of about 20 m2.

Pairing

The impedance minimum asks for a partner amplifier that handles difficult loads with good current delivery. The Aurora S7SE bookshelf, planned at AUD 3,999 per pair, can serve as rears to keep the same Teardrop drivers in a multichannel system. The first three models of the series were scheduled for release in February 2026, with Australia and New Zealand as the initial markets, and the range tops out with the 4.5-way Excalibur S7SE at AUD 9,999 per pair.

Alternatives

The Dragon S7SE is the four-way tower one step up in the same Richter series, priced at AUD 7,999 per pair.
