The Excalibur S7 Special Edition, also written S7SE, is a floorstanding loudspeaker from Richter Audio of Australia, released as part of the Series 7 Special Edition range that marks 40 years of the company. It sits at the top of that range above the Dragon S7SE and Wizard S7SE, and the first three models went on sale in February 2026. List prices are AUD 9,999 and NZD 11,449 per pair.
Key specs that matter
The 4.5-way layout relies on six drivers. A 25 mm soft-dome neodymium tweeter of the SE Teardrop type and a 70 mm soft-dome midrange cover the upper bands, two 165 mm composite paper-cone mid-bass drivers handle the middle, and a pair of 165 mm bass units with composite paper cones, built for high power and long excursion, cover the lowest range. The quoted response is 24 Hz to 30 kHz at -6 dB. Sensitivity is 91 dB measured at 2.83 V and 1 m on axis. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm, with a minimum of 2.5 ohm. Richter recommends 100 to 300 W RMS. Each cabinet is 285 mm wide, 1,191 mm tall and 445 mm deep including grille and stabilisers, and weighs 36.2 kg.
Engineering and use context
The mid-bass units have lightweight, rigid cones in cast-alloy baskets, and the dedicated bass drivers use larger voice coils with greater excursion. Richter arranges the upper drivers as a precision MTM array flanked by parallel midrange units. The enclosure is a dual-chamber vented bass reflex design with two rear-mounted ports, and foam plugs are supplied to damp the ports for tuning. The newly developed crossover has multi-stage sections, each driver getting its own circuit, and is assembled from polypropylene capacitors, air-core coils and ferrite-core coils. The cabinet has a softer, contemporary form, clad in natural walnut veneer with a front baffle painted matte anthracite grey, while magnetic grilles are covered in a textured mottle cloth. Stabilisers are fitted to the base. The terminal plate is bi-wire ready, with heavy-duty nickel-plated posts suited to bare cable as well as banana, spade and pin terminations. The warranty runs for 5 years.
Pairing
Richter specifies a high-current design able to hold steady into difficult loads, which matters because of the low impedance minimum. With the bi-wire terminal plate, the lower and upper crossover sections can each receive their own pair of speaker leads.
Alternatives
The Richter Dragon S7SE is the 4-way floorstander one step below in the same Special Edition series, listed at AUD 7,999 per pair.
