The Dragon S7 Special Edition, or Dragon S7SE, is the four-way tower in the Series 7 Special Edition range from Richter, designed and made in Sydney, Australia. The range was created with industrial designer Adam Hobbs and acoustical engineer Dr Martin Gosnell, with launch planned for February 2026 after a debut at the 2025 Melbourne Hi-Fi Show. The latest SE Teardrop array and newly developed mid-bass drivers are used here. It sits between the Wizard S7SE and the Excalibur S7SE and costs AUD 7,999 or NZD 9,499 per pair.

Key specs that matter

The S7SE carries five drivers in total. A Teardrop array pairs a 25 mm neodymium soft-dome tweeter with a 70 mm soft-dome midrange. Two 165 mm composite paper-cone mid-bass units sit below, and a separate 165 mm long-throw bass unit of the same composite paper with a larger voice coil operates through a bass-shelf extension design. Richter quotes 25 Hz to 30 kHz, sensitivity of 90 dB and a nominal 4 ohm load that falls to a minimum of 3.5 ohm. The suggested amplifier range is 100 to 300 W RMS, drawn from amplifiers with strong current rated into 4 ohm. Each speaker is 1,091 mm high, 285 mm wide and 419 mm deep and weighs 29.1 kg.

Engineering and use context

Richter builds the cabinet as a vented bass-reflex box with two chambers, using curved, non-parallel panels and internal bracing aimed at resonance and standing waves. Richter describes the revised cabinet form as intended to let the drivers work with less unwanted resonance. The mid-bass cones are light and rigid paper pulp in cast-alloy baskets. A newly developed four-way crossover is ready for bi-wiring and uses multi-stage layouts giving every driver its own circuit. The only finish is natural walnut veneer. Richter positions the model for larger rooms and for both stereo and home cinema, so 20 m2 is a lower bound rather than a target.

Pairing

The low minimum impedance and the 100 W floor of the power recommendation point to a solid-state amplifier that doubles its output as the load halves, and not a small tube amplifier. With bi-wire terminals, separate cable runs can feed the lower and upper crossover sections. For multichannel use the Aurora S7SE bookshelf, planned for Q2 2026 at AUD 3,999 per pair, belongs to the same series.

Alternatives

The Excalibur S7SE is the 4.5-way tower above it in the same Richter range, priced at AUD 9,999 per pair.
