THE STAGE is a two-way floorstanding speaker in the HERITAGE collection of Davis Acoustics, built in the company workshop in Troyes, France. It took two years to develop and was shown at the Munich show in 2024, then at the Paris Audio Video Show that autumn. Davis calls it a physical miniature of THE WALL, the larger model of the same collection, and places it above the Nikita, whose design it takes further. French pricing is EUR 9,000 per pair, with production to order.
Key specs that matter
The speaker has two drivers. Its 25 cm woofer with a Kevlar cone, driven by a TiCoNAl magnet, covers bass and midrange, and a 25 mm cone tweeter shared with THE WALL takes over at 3,500 Hz. Frequency response is 40 Hz to 20,000 Hz within 3 dB, sensitivity is 91.5 dB and impedance is 4 ohm. The power rating is 100 W nominal and 150 W maximum. The cabinet is unusually broad and shallow at 100 cm high, 50 cm wide and 22 cm deep, and each boxed speaker weighs 35 kg. Walnut and black piano lacquer are the two finishes, and the cabinet is presented by Davis as acoustic furniture made of wood.
Engineering and use context
Davis created the woofer for this model alone, and it is built in the Davis workshops in Troyes. TiCoNAl is an alloy of titanium, cobalt, nickel and aluminium, and Davis developed a dedicated magnetisation process for this model. Using a cone rather than a dome for the tweeter follows a design approach that Davis has kept in its HERITAGE models. A round reflex vent is cut into the side panel, and the speaker can be set up with the port facing the side wall or facing inward, which gives a way to adjust the amount of bass reaching the listening seat. Visually the front has no logo, and a single oblique line divides the cabinet into two planes, so the piece reads as furniture. Spikes are available in black metal or aluminium.
Pairing
Being efficient, the speaker needs little power to reach normal levels, which opens the door to transistor and valve amplifiers of modest rating, as long as they handle a low-impedance speaker comfortably. At its Paris debut it was demonstrated with Jadis electronics. The wide front face and shallow depth suit placement along a wall, with the side port direction chosen according to the distance to the adjacent side walls.
Alternatives
THE WALL is the larger HERITAGE floorstander from Davis, a three-way design with four drivers, including two 21 cm carbon woofers, in a cabinet 130 cm high and 70 cm wide.
