The Coltrane Supreme Extreme is a loudspeaker system from Marten of Molndal, Sweden, made up of four towers - a main tower and a separate bass tower for each channel. Marten describes it as a dual-tower, five-way design. Its public debut took place at High End Munich 2025, its world premiere listening session followed in Hong Kong in August 2025, and a further demonstration was scheduled for the Tokyo International show in October. Every speaker is built by hand at the Swedish facility, and the company states that each one takes more than 800 hours to build.
Key specs that matter
The main tower carries a 1 inch pure diamond tweeter, a 3 inch pure diamond high midrange, a 7 inch pure beryllium midrange, and four 8 inch mid-bass units of Crystalid, a ceramic-based material of the maker's own. It covers 120 Hz to 60,000 Hz within 2 dB, carries a 600 W power rating, and has an impedance of 6 ohm with a minimum of 3.4 ohm. Each bass tower holds five 10 inch aluminium sandwich woofers working with ten passive radiators of the same size and construction, spans 17 Hz to 120 Hz within 2 dB and is rated at 1000 W. Both towers reach 93 dB at 2.83 V.
Engineering and use context
All crossovers are first order, with custom-built parts. Within the main tower the further points sit at 370 Hz, 1000 Hz and 4000 Hz, and the bass tower hands over at the lower limit of the main tower's range. Cabinets are a carbon fibre monocoque reinforced by a sandwich of aluminium and solid wood. A main tower is 30 cm wide, 182.2 cm tall and 63.5 cm deep and weighs 140 kg net. The bass tower shares that height and depth but is 70 cm wide and weighs 270 kg. The towers stand on a mirror-polished stainless steel stand with upgraded Marten Isolators built in. The finish is chosen from Matte Walnut, Matte Cherry, Matte Maple and Matte Oak, and the same veneers are offered for both tower types.
Pairing
Signal reaches the main tower through bi-wiring terminals made by Marten with Furutech, while the bass tower uses a single-wired version of the same terminal, and internal cabling in both is Jorma Paragon. That layout calls for three runs of speaker cable per channel if the main towers are bi-wired. Because the main and bass towers carry different power ratings and loads, owners can dedicate separate power amplifiers to each.
Alternatives
The Marten Coltrane Supreme 2 is a five-way Coltrane tower that places all its drivers in one cabinet per channel instead of a separate bass tower.
