The Parker Quintet is the top model of the Parker series from Marten, the Swedish loudspeaker maker. The Parker range was introduced in 2020 and occupies the middle tier of the Marten catalogue, a position previously held by the Heritage series, below the Coltrane and Mingus families. It is a passive floorstanding design described by the maker as a 2.5-way system.

Key specs that matter

The front carries a 1 inch pure ceramic tweeter, which can be upgraded to a diamond unit, and four 7.5 inch ceramic bass and midrange drivers. Marten quotes a frequency range of 24 Hz to 40,000 Hz within plus or minus 2 dB and a sensitivity of 93 dB at 2.83 V. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm with a stated minimum of 2.7 ohm, and the power rating is 350 W. The cabinet measures 24 to 33 cm in width, 117 cm in height and 54 cm in depth, and each speaker weighs 60 kg net.

Engineering and use context

The ceramic drivers were custom designed by Leif Olofsson for this class of speaker, with extended linear excursion and neodymium magnet systems. Low frequencies are reinforced by four 9 inch aluminium passive radiators fitted to the rear panel. The crossover point sits at 2200 Hz, and Marten describes the filter slopes as multi diverse order, developed through listening sessions combined with simulation and measurement. Two crossover builds exist. The ceramic version uses polypropylene capacitors with copper foil inductors, while the Diamond edition moves to copper foil capacitors alongside the same inductor type. The tapering enclosure is built from 35 mm M-board, a layered board that Marten uses to suppress cabinet resonance. Internal wiring comes from Jorma and is handmade in Swedish copper with separate shielding, and the Quintet can be ordered with Jorma Statement internal cables instead. Marten also supplies its own exclusively designed pucks for the Parker range. Its feet are made of stainless steel with a mirror polish and carry Marten Isolators, a joint development with IsoAcoustics intended to isolate the cabinet from the floor and to resist lateral movement.

Pairing

Connection is by one pair of WBT Nextgen binding posts for single wiring, so each speaker takes one run of cable from the amplifier. Finish options listed for the cabinet include piano walnut, matte walnut and piano black.
