The Summit is the top tower of the YG Acoustics Peaks range, a three-way passive design within a series announced on 10 January 2022 to bring the company's engineering to a lower price than its Reference models. The Peaks family also contains the Cairn and Tor two-way stand-mounts, the two-way Talus tower, the three-way Ascent and the Descent active subwoofer. At launch the Summit cost USD 25,000 or GBP 30,000 per pair.

Key specs that matter

A ForgeCore tweeter handles the top of the band, an 18.5 cm aluminium cone driver covers the midrange and a 26 cm aluminium cone unit produces the bass, and both cones come from YG's own BilletCore programme. The quoted response runs from 24 Hz to 40 kHz. Sensitivity is 90 dB, while impedance averages 4 ohm and drops to a minimum of 2.4 ohm. Each cabinet stands 113.5 cm tall, 31 cm wide and 50 cm deep and weighs 72 kg.

Engineering and use context

Instead of the all-aluminium construction of the Reference range, the Peaks towers pair a thick aluminium front baffle, precision-machined in YG's own workshop, with a sealed body made from thick dense resin fibre. The panels are pressed into their curved shape in bespoke tooling by specialist European workshops, and the shell is reinforced by internal bracing and lined with acoustic absorbers. A sealed alignment has no port, so the bass section is loaded only by the trapped air behind the woofer. YG says the crossover topology was refined through computer simulation followed by long listening sessions, and each network is hand-assembled on boards that YG mills in-house, using quality components. The series is offered in three wood options, namely Datuk Ebony, Flamed Rosewood and Balanced Oak, so the towers carry a veneered look rather than the anodised metal of YG's pricier lines.

Pairing

Its deepest impedance dip decides the amplifier choice, since it asks for an output stage that stays stable and keeps delivering current into loads well under 4 ohm. Solid-state amplifiers with a published 2 ohm rating are the natural match. With the high sensitivity, the amplifier does not need a very high power rating, as long as it copes with the low impedance dip. For owners who want extra low-frequency support, the sealed Descent subwoofer from the same series was designed to join these speakers.

Alternatives

The YG Acoustics Ascent is the smaller three-way floor-standing model in the Peaks series, priced at USD 19,800 per pair at launch.
