Peak Consult builds the Sinfonia as a three-way floorstander at its home in Middelfart, Denmark, where Per Kristoffersen founded the company in 1996. In 2021 ownership passed to Lennart Asbjørn Jensen and Wilfried Ehrenholz. Within the current catalogue the Sinfonia belongs to the three-way group together with El Diablo and Dragon Legacy, while the two-way Sonora opens the range. The European price was EUR 45,000 per pair and the North American figure USD 58,900.
Key specs that matter
Three drivers work in a rear-ported enclosure - a 26 mm silk soft dome tweeter, an 11 cm polypropylene midrange and a 20 cm polypropylene bass unit, all proprietary designs built by Audio Technology and Scan-Speak. The crossover hands over at 450 Hz and 3,100 Hz. Peak Consult rates sensitivity at 89 dB for 1 W at 1 m and gives a nominal impedance of 5 ohm with a tolerance of plus or minus 1 ohm. Each cabinet stands 114 cm tall, 30 cm wide and 46 cm deep, and a single speaker weighs 78 kg. Ash, walnut and wenge cost nothing extra, and a full acrylic finish is made to order for a 5 percent surcharge.
Engineering and use context
Several layers of high-density fiberboard are laminated with a foam damping glue to give wall thicknesses of 36 to 50 mm, and the box is braced inside and faced with a 14 mm skin of solid hardwood or acrylic. The front baffle alone is 45 mm thick. Four different adhesives are used in assembly, each picked for its mechanical behaviour, and sheep's wool damps the interior. The crossover has no printed circuit boards - parts are hand-soldered, graphite resistors are used, and the network is spread over three MDF boards inside its own sealed chamber filled with sand to keep it away from cabinet vibration and heat. Peak Linear Impedance Control, abbreviated PLIC, is the name for the crossover approach that keeps the impedance curve flat. The speaker rests on four stainless steel feet decoupled by double O-rings and ceramic ball bearings, connections are made through Argento terminals, and the warranty runs five years and transfers to a second owner.
Pairing
Peak Consult says the linear impedance design lets the Sinfonia work with many different amplifier types. Single-wire binding posts are standard, and a bi-wire panel is fitted on request at no charge for owners who run separate cables to the bass and upper sections. For a multichannel system the brand offers the Tonos centre speaker.
Alternatives
The Peak Consult El Diablo is another three-way floorstanding model from the same Danish maker with a larger driver complement.
