The Dragon Legacy is a 3-way ported floorstanding loudspeaker from Peak Consult of Denmark, a company reorganised in 2021 that now works with Fink Audio-Consulting. Its enclosure is made in-house, each unit weighs 225 kg, the price was quoted at EUR 185,000, and the drive units were custom built for this model alone, with their electrical parameters specified to suit the mechanical and acoustic design.
Key specs that matter
Each speaker carries five drivers arranged symmetrically in a D'Appolito layout. Two 28 cm bass units with 75 mm voice coils use sandwich membranes of impregnated paper and foam and are built for long linear excursion. Two 15 cm midrange drivers have a low damping surround and a symmetrical drive, and between them a new tweeter with a 26 mm silk dome is loaded by a waveguide. Peak Consult gives an efficiency of 90 dB at 1 W and 1 m and a nominal impedance of 4 ohm held within plus or minus 1 ohm by its Peak Linear Impedance Control. Each speaker measures 172 cm high, 40 cm wide and 58 cm deep. Standard finishes are ash, walnut and wenge, and a full acrylic finish costs a 5 percent surcharge.
Engineering and use context
Its cabinet follows the Danish furniture tradition in its construction and is divided into segments inside. Sidewalls are built from 4 layers of high-damping materials to a total thickness of 46 mm, the joints between housing segments are 82 mm thick, and the outer skin is 14 mm solid American walnut or African wenge. Four specialised adhesives are used to hold the structure to tight tolerances. The baffles are mirror imaged vertically, and each bass driver has its own rear-firing reflex port. The crossover is hardwired with audiophile-grade parts and split across three separate MDF boards in a sealed, sand-filled chamber, which allows bi-wire or bi-amp connection through Argento bi-wire terminals supplied at no extra cost. The speaker stands on six adjustable stainless steel decoupling pods, each holding a small silicon nitride ceramic ball on an O-ring, and the contact point with the floor is less than 5 mm across.
Pairing
The tightly controlled impedance suits amplifiers specified for low loads, and the separate crossover boards let owners run bass and upper sections from different amplifier channels through the bi-wire terminals.
Alternatives
The Peak Consult Sinfonia is another floorstanding loudspeaker in the current Peak Consult range, in a smaller format than the Dragon Legacy.
