The Pulsar S 130 is a floorstander from T+A, the German company whose name stands for Theorie und Anwendung, theory and application. Introduced at the end of 2024, it brings concepts from T+A's high-end Solitaire and Criterion series, including its Symmetric Directivity design, to a more accessible price. It is a metre-tall three-way speaker made in Germany.
Key specs that matter
It uses two 150 mm bass drivers, two 115 mm StarStabilizer midrange drivers and a 25 mm magnesium dome tweeter. Crossovers are at 225 Hz and 2.2 kHz. Frequency response is 32 Hz to 45 kHz, sensitivity is 86 dB and nominal impedance is 4 ohms. Nominal power handling is 150 W, with peaks to 180 W. The cabinet measures 100 x 27 x 37 cm including base and spikes and weighs 22.5 kg.
Engineering and use context
The Symmetric Directivity design places the midrange drivers symmetrically around the tweeter to shape how sound leaves the baffle, keeping dispersion consistent across the band and reducing reflections from the room's floor and ceiling. The StarStabilizer cones use a base material refined with silicon powder, reinforced by a central star-shaped structure that prevents modes and self-resonances from forming, so the cones stay pistonic. The bass drivers have strong magnets, large voice coils and long throw, and the curved enclosure takes its form from Art Deco design. The bass reflex system is tuned to use the rear energy of the drivers, and the port fires forward from the lower front panel, which makes placement near a wall easier. The midrange drivers use strong magnets and cover the vocal range. The magnesium tweeter comes from T+A's AudiophileLinearity series and is coated to suppress the resonances typical of metal domes, with a custom diffuser for even dispersion. T+A calls the front its OrganicBaffle design, entirely screw-free, with the drivers anchored from inside. The cabinet is finished in multi-layer rubbed lacquer in black or white. In the USA the pair was priced at about USD 7,500. T+A describes the speaker as compact and suited to rooms where ideal placement is not possible.
Pairing
With its moderate sensitivity and low nominal impedance, the Pulsar S 130 needs a stable amplifier of 100 W or more into 4 ohms, such as T+A's own integrated amplifiers. The forward-facing port suits rooms of 15 to 30 m2 with limited placement freedom.
Alternatives
T+A's Criterion S 2100 CTL is the larger floorstander of the brand that shares the Symmetric Directivity principle.
