The Caruso S 10 is the floor-standing member of the T+A Caruso loudspeaker family, which has only two passive models - this tower and the R 10 bookshelf speaker. Both were designed around the Caruso R, a multi-source receiver with its own power stages for driving passive speakers, and their styling follows that unit's outward appearance. T+A calls the S 10 an extremely slim three-way design and intends it for living rooms.

Key specs that matter

Four drivers work in a three-way bass reflex arrangement. Two 152 mm bass units cover the low range, a third 152 mm cone handles the midrange, and a 25 mm tweeter uses a dome of special woven material. The crossover points sit at 200 Hz and 2,400 Hz. T+A quotes a frequency range of 33 to 30,000 Hz, a nominal impedance of 4 ohm and a sensitivity of 89 dB. Power handling is 120 W nominal and 180 W music. Without its base the speaker is 93 cm high, 17 cm wide and 32 cm deep, and it weighs 18 kg. The listed finish is a black case with a cover in aluminium silver 43.

Engineering and use context

The cabinet combines wood with aluminium and a perforated metal front grille, and T+A describes it as extremely rigid and free of resonance. The grille is held by magnets, so no screws are visible on the baffle, and the perforation leaves the drivers fully open to the room. Because of where the two crossover points are placed, the voice range is reproduced by the midrange driver alone rather than being split between woofer and tweeter. T+A states that the drive units use large magnets and special coils, with diaphragms made from carbon, fibres and cellulose in processes chosen for stiffness and torsional strength. Bi-wire terminals are fitted, and T+A offers its Speaker Hex and Speaker Quad carbon cables as optional accessories.

Pairing

The natural partner is the Caruso R receiver, whose appearance the speaker was styled to match, but T+A also names other compact amplifiers and receivers as suitable sources. A partner amplifier should handle the modest nominal load comfortably and stay within the music power rating. The companion R 10 bookshelf model uses a single bass driver, reaches down to 40 Hz and is rated at 120 W music power, sharing the same wood and aluminium construction.
