The Talis S 330 is the floor-standing model of the Talis 330 range from T+A of Herford, Germany, sold alongside the Talis R 330 bookshelf speaker, which is priced at USD 9,980 per pair. It became available in January 2025 at USD 18,950 per pair, in silver or black anodised finishes, and it is a reworked generation of the Talis line with a new magnesium tweeter and a refreshed design.

Key specs that matter

The S 330 is a passive reflex-loaded speaker with three ways and four drivers. Two 170 mm woofers with strong magnets and long-throw suspension share the low range, a 120 mm driver handles the middle band, and a 25 mm tweeter with a reinforced magnesium membrane reproduces the treble. T+A divides the signal at 250 Hz and 2,200 Hz. The rated range runs from 25 Hz to 40,000 Hz, a sensitivity of 87 dB and a 4 ohm impedance. Load capacity is 200 W nominal and 270 W music power. Each cabinet measures 105 cm high, 21 cm wide and 28 cm deep and weighs 33 kg.

Engineering and use context

Hand-brushed aluminium forms the enclosure instead of wood. Its WrapAround front baffle extends beyond the face of the speaker and flows into tapered side panels, and the front carries no visible screws, which T+A links to lower diffraction. Despite the slim outline the internally braced cabinet holds more than 55 litres of volume, and a precision-milled chamber system forms airtight compartments for the bass and midrange drivers. The woofers and midrange use StarStabilizer membranes, where a star-shaped central reinforcement suppresses membrane resonances so the cone travels as one rigid piston. The magnesium tweeter carries a special coating intended to remove the high-frequency resonances found in other metal domes, and it extends to 50 kHz. All drivers are finished in black, and the speaker is manufactured in Herford.

Pairing

The crossovers follow T+A's double-sided Fast Signal Response (FSR) layout, with dedicated cables to each driver and separate circuit boards for the bass and upper sections, so the S 330 can take bi-wire cabling or a bi-amp connection to its two sections. Combined with the low impedance rating, this points to amplification that is stable into low impedances, and a second stereo amplifier can drive the woofers on their own channels while the first handles the upper drivers.

T+A also builds the Criterion S 2100 CTL, a floor-standing speaker from its Criterion line, which uses transmission line bass loading instead of the aluminium reflex enclosure of the Talis.
