The prophecy5 is the slimline two-way floorstander in the prophecy series from PMC, the British loudspeaker company, sitting between the prophecy1 standmount and the three-way prophecy7 and prophecy9. PMC unveiled the five-model range in December 2024 and made it available worldwide from 1 February 2025. The company describes the prophecy5 as a design for small and medium rooms that takes up no more floor space than a standmount on its stand.

Key specs that matter

A PMC 125 mm (5 inch) LTXL mineral cone bass driver in a cast alloy chassis works with a 27 mm soft dome tweeter, with the hand-over set at 1.6 kHz. The quoted response is 40 Hz to 20 kHz at minus 3 dB. Sensitivity is 87 dB SPL for 1 W at 1 m into a 6 ohm nominal impedance, and PMC recommends amplifiers from 20 W to 200 W. The effective ATL length is 1.79 m. A single pair of 4 mm binding posts in satin nickel takes the speaker cable. The cabinet is 900 mm tall plus 20 mm spikes, 165 mm wide and 260 mm deep, with 23 mm more for the terminals and 10 mm for the grille, and each speaker weighs 17.7 kg.

Engineering and use context

The series introduced LaminairX, a redesigned version of PMC's Laminair vent that is the subject of a UK patent application. It works with the transmission line to cut turbulence, which PMC says lowers resistance and harmonic distortion by up to 3 dB and removes air noise. The vent is built into a heavy extruded aluminium base that also anchors the cabinet. The long-throw bass driver was developed for this range and uses a light mica-filled cone. The tweeter comes from PMC's professional near and midfield monitors, has ferrofluid cooling and sits behind a dispersion grille that controls directivity up to 180 degrees, framed by a sculpted n-compass profile. The crossover uses high-order, steep filter slopes on a military-grade board with thick copper tracks and gold through-plating. Finishes are Walnut, Mediterranean Oak and Black on veneers from sustainable sources, the grilles attach with hidden magnets, and the packaging replaces polystyrene with cardboard and plastic with cloth bags.

Pairing

Any stereo amplifier inside the recommended power window that is stable into the nominal impedance fits the specification, and PMC states that the design is intended to get the most from affordable source components as well as higher-grade amplification. A matching prophecyC centre lets owners build a surround setup around a pair.
