The Piano G3 is the third generation of the Piano, a compact passive floorstander from TIDAL-Audio GmbH of Hürth, Germany. The company announced it in August 2022 as the successor to the Piano G2, with every component redesigned while the compact outline and the placement flexibility of the earlier Piano versions were kept. TIDAL calls it the Absolute Entry of its range and describes it as the smallest of all TIDAL loudspeakers. Launch prices were USD 64,000 per pair in Midnight Black gloss and USD 67,000 per pair with hand-selected veneers under clear piano lacquer.
Key specs that matter
Three drivers per cabinet form a 2 or 2.5-way layout. At the top sits a 30 mm diamond tweeter of the second-generation TBD-30 type, mechanically decoupled from the enclosure, and below it two 170 mm black ceramic mid-woofers, model MW-FG-170 Gen2. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm with a lowest drop of 3.2 ohm, published sensitivity is 86 dB, and the anechoic response spans 38 Hz to 55 kHz at the -6 dB points, holding within 1.2 dB from 150 Hz to 18 kHz. Power handling is given as 150/300 VA. The cabinet stands 116 cm tall, 24.5 cm wide and 39.5 cm deep, reaching 121 cm on its feet, and each speaker weighs 70 kg, or 106 kg in shipping form.
Engineering and use context
Each enclosure is a multi-chamber build in TIRADUR, a cabinet material developed by TIDAL, and its front is a dual layer with constrained-layer damping to lower panel vibration. The passive uno-pulse crossover lives in its own sealed chamber, isolated both hermetically and against microphonic effects, and the whole network weighs 13 kg. Parts include custom pure copper capacitors, metal-film and silver-carbon resistors, air-core inductors and a low-resistance bass inductor chosen for the lowest tolerances. A Vario-Terminal on the back switches the speaker between three modes - pure 2-way for small rooms, linear 2.5-way for medium spaces and gained 2.5-way for larger rooms or more low-frequency output. The cabinets rest on Gen-2 stainless steel isolators with eight polished trigger bars, and each pair ships with an ATA flight case.
Pairing
TIDAL recommends an amplifier of more than 30 watts. Speaker cables attach to low-mass silver binding posts on the terminal plate.
Alternatives
The TIDAL Contriva G3 is the larger passive floorstander in the same third-generation family, placed above the Piano G3 in the lineup.
