Among the OBi models from the French manufacturer AudioNec, the MINI is the smallest tower, placed under the OBi MID and OBi MAX. Like its larger siblings it is built around the DuoPole wideband driver developed for the Evo line, here listed as the Duopole 313510, a tall unit on the front baffle.
Key specs that matter
The MINI is a three-way loudspeaker. At the top, a dome super tweeter with horn loading reproduces 10 kHz to 25 kHz, the DuoPole 31 wideband driver works from 400 Hz to 10 kHz, and a single 12-inch low frequency driver designed for this model handles 30 Hz to 400 Hz. The maker quotes a nominal impedance of 8 ohm and a sensitivity of 90 dB. Recommended amplifier power runs from 30 to 300 watts. Each speaker measures 35 cm wide, 99 cm tall and 31 cm deep, with a weight of 23 kg.
Engineering and use context
As an open baffle design, the OBi MINI has no sealed or ported box behind its drivers. The waves radiated from the front and back of each cone interact freely with the listening room, and there are no cabinet walls to add their own resonances. The large wideband driver is given the widest part of the spectrum, so the only crossover points sit well below and well above the vocal range. The dedicated 12-inch woofer takes the bass alone, while the super tweeter is horn loaded to raise its output and control its spread in the highest octave. Compared with the OBi MID, the MINI shares the same width and depth but stands 28 cm lower, uses one woofer instead of two and weighs 5 kg less. Since the rear wave is part of the design, the speaker should not be pushed tight against the wall behind it.
Pairing
The higher impedance and sensitivity make the OBi MINI the least demanding load in the OBi range. The low end of the power recommendation opens the door to modest valve integrated amplifiers, while the upper figure leaves room for powerful solid state designs. In a 20 m2 room an amplifier in the 30 to 100 watt class already sits within the maker's stated window. A higher powered amplifier brings no benefit for everyday listening levels, though the top figure confirms the drivers can accept one. Loudspeaker cable of modest gauge is sufficient for runs of typical domestic length with a load of this impedance.
Alternatives
The AudioNec OBi MID offers the same open baffle approach at a taller size, with twin 12-inch woofers in a d'Appolito layout.
