The Evo 3 is the complete tower of the AudioNec Evo range, which the French company calls a no-compromise loudspeaker. It builds on the Evo 2 by doubling the bass section around the DuoPole 31 wideband unit, and AudioNec positions it for listening rooms larger than 50 m2. The same tower also forms the main speaker of the larger Evo 4 system.
Key specs that matter
Each tower carries six drivers. Up top a tweeter covers 10 kHz to 45 kHz. The DuoPole 31 spans 400 Hz to 10 kHz, a pair of 22 cm low-frequency drivers work from 35 Hz up to 400 Hz, and a pair of 28 cm subwoofers reach from 35 Hz down to 18 Hz. The load is 8 ohm and sensitivity is quoted at 92 dB. The recommended amplifier range is 80 W to 800 W. Each tower is 46 cm wide, 185 cm tall and 47 cm deep, and it weighs 120 kg.
Engineering and use context
The four bass drivers are mounted in a d'Appolito inspired arrangement, placed symmetrically above and below the DuoPole. AudioNec states that this layout creates a virtual source point at the centre of the tower, where all frequencies merge into one point in space. The DuoPole itself has no enclosure behind it. Its very light diaphragm is driven by a vertical voice coil without a spider and works as a dipole with equal front and rear output. Each driver group has an isolated compartment of high-density MDF, internal cabling is 6N OCC copper, and the rear panel carries four binding posts for bi-wiring or bi-amping. Several versions are listed. The fully passive model uses internal crossovers hand-wired with 2.5 mm2 copper, and the Xtrem model adds external crossovers and a beryllium super tweeter. Other listed variants include a Signature version with external crossover boxes, an Active Signature version with powered subwoofer modules, and a Digital Signature version with digital crossovers and separate amplification for the bass modules. Despite its height the cabinet keeps plain, simple lines, and its footprint is almost the same as that of the Evo 2.
Pairing
This load and sensitivity pose little difficulty for typical transistor amplifiers, and the wide power window leaves room for large amplifiers where the room volume calls for them. Bi-amping through the split terminals lets a separate stereo amplifier drive the four bass drivers.
Alternatives
The AudioNec Evo 2 sits one step lower in the series, combining a single woofer and a single sealed subwoofer in a shorter cabinet.
