The Monitor XT60 is a slim floorstanding speaker in Polk Audio's Monitor XT series, the accessible range the company designs in Baltimore, Maryland, and released in 2022. Polk designs the XT family so that towers, stand-mounts, centre speakers and the MXT90 height module can be combined in stereo or surround systems, and the XT60 carries Hi-Res Audio and Dolby Atmos certification and is DTS:X and Auro-3D compatible.
Key specs that matter
Polk uses a two-way layout here, with one 25 mm (1 in) Terylene dome tweeter, one 165 mm (6.5 in) Dynamic Balance woofer and two 165 mm (6.5 in) passive radiators. Response runs from 38 Hz to 40 kHz, sensitivity is 86 dB, nominal impedance is 8 ohms, and Polk recommends 25 W to 200 W of amplification. The cabinet measures 190.5 x 925 x 230.8 mm (W x H x D), with a weight of 9.07 kg.
Engineering and use context
The Terylene tweeter is driven by a ceramic motor structure and reaches the bandwidth required for Hi-Res Audio certification. Polk's Dynamic Balance process is applied to the lightweight polypropylene woofer cone to lower distortion, improve linearity and widen dynamic range. The woofer and both passive radiators share the same size, which keeps the front baffle narrow. Bass is extended by the two passive radiators rather than a port, which avoids port noise at high excursion and makes the tower less sensitive to wall proximity. The MDF cabinet is braced internally against standing waves and panel resonance. Nickel-plated binding posts and a removable precision-fit grille complete the build. All Monitor XT models share tuned components, so the tweeter and cone technology stay consistent from the towers to the centre and surround models. The MXT90 height module is designed to sit on top of the XT60 for Dolby Atmos height channels.
Pairing
Polk designed the XT series to run from standard AV receivers and stereo amplifiers rated for 4 or 8 ohm operation. When the XT60 fills a larger living space, an amplifier near the top of Polk's power window gives it the most headroom. In a home cinema, the XT30 centre and XT15 or XT20 stand-mounts complete a matched surround layout, and the XT60 also works as a side or rear speaker where floor space allows. The tower is light enough for one person to move while finding its position. Polk backs the series with a five-year limited warranty.
Alternatives
Polk's Monitor XT70 steps up to a bigger tower within the XT series for larger rooms.
