The Legend L600 is the floorstanding loudspeaker of the Polk Audio Legend series, sold as a single unit and now listed by Polk among its archived models. The Legend family also included the L100 and L200 stand-mount models and the L400 centre channel. Polk's manual describes the series as bold American design with curved cabinets, and the enclosures are finished in real natural wood veneer, with a black gloss lacquer option also covered by the care instructions.

Key specs that matter

Polk fits four drivers in a three-way arrangement - a 1 inch Pinnacle Ring Radiator tweeter, a 5.25 inch Turbine Cone midrange and two 7 inch woofers. The Orth crossover splits the band at 410 Hz between woofers and midrange, then at 2,900 Hz between midrange and tweeter. Acoustic slopes are 18 dB per octave for the tweeter high-pass, 24 dB and 12 dB per octave for the midrange low-pass and high-pass, and 18 dB per octave for the woofer low-pass. Polk rates overall frequency response at 28 Hz to 50 kHz, with -3 dB limits of 34 Hz and 38 kHz. Sensitivity is 86 dB, and nominal impedance is 4 ohm with a minimum of 3.3 ohm. Steady-state recommended amplifier power is 30 to 300 W. The cabinet is 32.92 cm wide, 118.59 cm high and 40.39 cm deep, and weighs 35.29 kg.

Engineering and use context

A sealed internal chamber isolates the midrange cone, while the two woofers load a Power Port vented section. Removing the jumpers between its two sets of binding posts permits bi-wire or bi-amp connection, with the upper posts feeding the high-frequency drivers and the lower ones the low-frequency section. The speaker stands on adjustable spikes with lock rings, and four rubber covers are supplied for the spikes. A removable magnetic grille and a cleaning cloth are included in the box. Polk covers the L600 with a five-year warranty that cannot be transferred.

Pairing

The L600 is compatible with the optional Legend L900 height module, which adds an overhead layer in Dolby Atmos or DTS:X setups. With a bass-managed AV receiver Polk advises setting the L600 to large when there is no subwoofer, and to small with a crossover of 40 to 80 Hz when a subwoofer is used. For bi-amping, the maker recommends two amplifiers with identical gain so that the balance between the upper and lower sections is preserved.
