The Imagine T65 is the largest tower of PSB's Imagine series, a three-way floorstander that brings technology from the company's Synchrony line into a more affordable cabinet. PSB, the Canadian brand founded by Paul Barton in 1972, tunes its speakers in the anechoic chamber of the NRC in Ottawa, and the T65 sits above the smaller T54 tower and B50 bookshelf model in the Imagine range.

Key specs that matter

Above a 133 mm (5.25 in) woven carbon fibre midrange and two 165 mm (6.5 in) woofers of the same material sits a 25 mm titanium dome tweeter. Crossovers sit at 600 Hz and 2000 Hz, both Linkwitz-Riley fourth order. On-axis response is 28 Hz to 23 kHz (+/-3 dB) and 37 Hz to 20 kHz (+/-1.5 dB), with a -10 dB point of 19 Hz. Measured sensitivity is 88 dB anechoic and 90 dB in-room. The load is 8 ohms nominal, 4 ohms minimum, and PSB lists 20 W to 200 W of recommended power. The cabinet measures 213 x 986 x 343 mm and weighs 20 kg.

Engineering and use context

The midrange is tuned and isolated in its own sealed chamber, so pressure from the woofers does not reach it. Each woofer has its own individually tuned chamber vented by a dedicated rear slot port, and the two ports are placed at different heights on the rear panel. This dual bass reflex arrangement lets each woofer load its port independently. Fourth-order acoustic crossovers, used across most PSB designs, keep the drivers in phase through the transitions. The tweeter derives its magnet and ferrofluid damping from the Synchrony line. The MDF cabinet is braced, and aluminium outrigger bars with adjustable spikes level the tower and add stability. Heavy all-metal five-way binding posts accept bare wire, lugs, banana plugs and spades, and allow bi-wiring or bi-amping. Driver trim rings in aluminium give the tower a matching look with the rest of the range, and it is sold in two satin colours, black and white.

Pairing

Its efficient design and 8 ohm nominal load make the T65 easy to drive from integrated amplifiers and AV receivers of 50 W upward in rooms of 20 to 40 m2. The rear ports benefit from 30 to 50 cm of space behind the cabinet. For home cinema, the B50 works as a surround speaker and shares the same tweeter. With individual chambers for each woofer, the two ports can be left open in most rooms, and the outrigger bars keep the narrow cabinet stable on carpet.

Alternatives

PSB's Imagine T54 offers a narrower cabinet with 133 mm woofers for smaller rooms.
