The BERLINA RC 7 MK III is the mid-sized tower of the Berlina line from Gauder Akustik, a German maker based in Renningen. This three-way column relies on a triple 7 inch bass system, placed between the closed RC 3 monitor and the modular four-way RC 11 in the current MK III range. In Germany the suggested price is EUR 34,998 for a pair in the base configuration, and the order sheet lets buyers add features one by one - a beryllium tweeter for EUR 2,500, the Bigfoot base for EUR 3,500, and a VU meter, MusicLight illumination or the Double Vision option at EUR 1,500 each.
Key specs that matter
Gauder quotes a nominal impedance of 4 ohm and a power handling of 510 W. The enclosure stands 122 cm tall, 24 cm wide and 46 cm deep, and each speaker weighs 62 kg. The woofers work in a ported chamber, while the midrange and tweeter sit in their own sealed volume. The drivers are black XPulse units selected by hand, and in Berlina models the ceramic-coned drivers cover everything up to 1 kHz. At the top end the standard fitting is an ultra low mass aluminium dome, which can later be swapped for a beryllium tweeter without any change to the crossover. Piano lacquer in black or white is offered, and the thin accent ribs come in silver, gold, white or black.
Engineering and use context
The ribbed cabinet is the core of the Berlina concept. Rather than flat panels, the walls are built from MDF ribs screwed together in layers, with softer damping ribs in between, and the ribs thicken from front to back so that resonant peaks are spread out. The bass reflex opening vents downward instead of through the front or rear panel. Inside, a symmetric crossover built with Mundorf components uses filter slopes of 60 dB per octave. Time Delay Control, which Gauder abbreviates as TDC, delays the tweeter signal electrically to line up the arrival of all three ways. Signal wiring inside the cabinet is by Clearwater, and the rear panel carries WBT NextGen terminals prepared for bi-wiring. Bass extension can be changed in steps at the terminal. Production and checking take place in Renningen, and registering the pair extends the warranty to ten years.
Pairing
With no official efficiency figure available, the impedance and power ratings are the only published basis for choosing an amplifier. Thanks to the split terminals, an owner of two stereo power amplifiers can assign one to the woofers and the other to the sealed mid and treble unit.
Alternatives
The Gauder Akustik BERLINA RC 11 MK III is the four-way model stacking three ribbed cabinets with diamond midrange and tweeter drivers.
