The BERLINA RC 11 MK III is a four-way reference loudspeaker in modular form from Gauder Akustik, whose speakers are all built in Renningen, Germany, with a listening test as part of final quality control. On the maker's MK III data sheet it stands beside the closed two-way RC 3 monitor, the three-way RC 7 tower and the Center Grande, and it is the tallest and heaviest model of that list. Instead of one enclosure, the RC 11 stacks three separate ribbed cabinets on a stone base plate.

Key specs that matter

Seven drivers share the work. Four 220 mm woofers, hand-selected XPulse-DM units with ceramic cones, carry the lowest octaves, a 170 mm ceramic driver follows, and above 1 kHz the signal passes to a 50 mm diamond midrange and a 20 mm diamond tweeter. Diamond domes for the top two ways are standard on this model, whereas smaller Berlina versions ship with aluminium. Earlier documentation gives the diamond section a reach up to 80 kHz. Gauder rates the load at 4 ohm nominal and the power handling at 970 W. Each column is 202 cm high, 34 cm wide and 72 cm deep, and one speaker weighs 230 kg.

Engineering and use context

Every one of the three cabinets follows the RC principle - horizontal MDF ribs stacked and screwed together, with soft damping ribs between them and a thickness that grows from front to rear, so that no single panel resonance dominates. Seen from above the enclosure has a teardrop outline intended to cut edge diffraction. The midrange module is sealed, while the bass cabinet uses a reflex port. The symmetric crossover is fitted with Mundorf parts and filters at 60 dB per octave, so neighbouring drivers barely overlap. Because filter coils delay the signal, the TDC (Time Delay Control) circuit electronically holds back the tweeter feed so that all drivers radiate in step without a stepped baffle. Internal parts come from Mundorf, IT, WBT and Clearwater. Finishes are piano black or white lacquer with intermediate ribs in black, white, silver or gold, and an aluminium Bigfoot with spikes and a VU meter are extra-cost options. Registered owners receive a ten-year warranty.

Pairing

Gauder publishes no sensitivity figure, which leaves the impedance and power ratings given above as the only official guide for amplifier choice. WBT NextGen terminals are wired for bi-wiring, which lets the bass modules and the upper cabinet run on separate cable runs or on two stereo amplifiers. Given the weight of each column, floor strength and access for delivery must be checked before ordering.

Alternatives

The Gauder Akustik BERLINA RC 7 MK III packs a triple 7 inch bass system into a 122 cm three-way tower rated at 510 W.
