Chario of Milan builds the Aviator Amelia as a slim floorstanding model within its Aviator range, named after and inspired by the aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart. Like every Aviator model its cabinet is made from solid walnut of Italian origin. Other members of the Aviator family are the Ghibli and Nobile two-way bookshelf speakers, the Cielo and five-way Aria floorstanding models and the Balbo, a three-way dialogue speaker.
Key specs that matter
Its drivers sit in a reversed vertical alignment above a vented NRS bass load. The drivers are a 38 mm T38 Waveguide tweeter, a 130 mm Rohacell midrange with a NeFeB motor and two 130 mm Rohacell woofers, also with NeFeB motors. The crossover works at 200 Hz and 1,345 Hz at -6 dB with fourth-order slopes. Rated sensitivity is 90 dB SPL at 2.83 Vrms and 1 m, taken with decorrelated L and R pink noise in a listening room meeting ITU-R BS 1116-1. The -3 dB bass limit lies at 48 Hz. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm, falling to 2.8 ohm at 119 Hz, and the phase angle stays inside 36 degrees from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Each speaker measures 1,005 mm high, 240 mm wide and 340 mm deep and weighs 11 kg.
Engineering and use context
Chario mounts the two woofers low down and on the back panel, away from the front baffle, and states that this arrangement gives wider extension and greater dynamic capacity while reducing the workload of the front drivers. The enclosure pairs solid walnut and HDF, and Chario treats each enclosure as a working element of the acoustic project, contributing to the overall energy emission pattern together with the drivers and crossover. Material choice, finishing and the entire manufacturing process take place in Italy at the company's own facilities, and all speaker cabinets are built by hand in Chario's woodworking workshops. Chario's T38 Waveguide tweeter uses a waveguide flange and a dedicated crossover to focus energy towards the listening position, and because it is a large tweeter it can cross over to the next driver at a lower frequency than a conventional unit. Chario states that crossover parts are built to its own specifications in Italy and soldered by hand. The shipping box measures 1,117 x 449 x 345 mm.
Pairing
The recommended amplifier delivers 150 W average power at nominal impedance. Its low impedance dip is worth checking against the amplifier's specified load capability.

In the same Aviator family Chario also builds the Aviator Cielo floorstander.
