The Amea is the compact two-way model that Vimberg calls the entry into its range, and it is a stand-mounted speaker rather than a floorstander. Vimberg was set up in 2018 as a brand of Tidal Audio GmbH and presented at the Munich High End show that year, and its speakers are built in the Tidal factory in Hürth, Germany. Designer Jörn Janczak created the line to bring Tidal's philosophy and technology to a wider circle of buyers at lower prices. The US price starts at USD 14,000 per pair, rising to USD 18,500 in piano lacquer.
Key specs that matter
A 30 mm Accuton Cell tweeter with an inverted ceramic dome sits above a 173 mm Accuton mid-woofer with a ceramic diaphragm. There is no port, as the low end is reinforced by a 220 mm Accuton passive radiator on the rear panel, whose diaphragm is an aluminium sandwich honeycomb. Each cabinet is 504 mm high, 230 mm wide and 390 mm deep and weighs 20 kg, or 22.5 kg in a shipping carton of 51 x 71 x 62 cm. A diamond tweeter of the same 30 mm size is available as an upgrade, and the speaker then becomes the Amea D.
Engineering and use context
The enclosure follows the brand's MRD approach - a resonance-absorbing, waterproof HDF fibre laminate combined with aluminium reinforcement. The tweeter and mid-woofer are fixed to a separate aluminium plate that is decoupled from the cabinet, so the drivers are isolated from box vibration. Vimberg's monopulse crossover is designed for a linear frequency response together with an optimised impulse response, and it is populated only with Mundorf and Duelund parts. Internal wiring is Mogami coaxial speaker cable, ending at pure silver Argento binding posts. The standard finish is Velvetec, a lacquer containing ceramic particles, available in white, black, grey, orange and a purple Amethyst shade, while real piano lacquer is an alternative order option. The front plate housing the upper drivers can be specified in brass or copper.
Pairing
Vimberg gives a nominal impedance of 5 ohm with the lowest point at 5.2 ohm near 100 Hz, and a sensitivity of 86 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, measured at 1 kHz. Dedicated Vimberg stands weigh about 60 kg per pair and bring the top of the speaker to roughly the height of the floorstanding Mino, and they cost GBP 2,900 per pair in the UK.
Alternatives
Vimberg makes no second standmount, as the Mino and Tonda that complete its catalogue are three-way floorstanding designs.
