The A4t is the top model of the A-Series from Perlisten Audio, the line the American company presents as its most affordable way into Perlisten design. The series comprises the A4t and A3t towers, the A3m mini-monitor and the A2s on-wall surround. Compared with its A3t sibling, the A4t adds a third woofer, which Perlisten says spreads the load in demanding bass passages and makes the model better suited to larger rooms. The maker also positions it for home cinema and multichannel systems built from other A-Series models.

Key specs that matter

A 35 mm composite Teteron dome tweeter works with three 215 mm woofers that use carbon fibre diaphragms, arranged as a 2.5-way bass reflex system. Perlisten quotes a response of 35 Hz to 27 kHz at -6 dB and 28 Hz to 27 kHz at -10 dB, with typical bass extension in a room of 28 Hz at -6 dB and 19 Hz at -10 dB. Between 100 Hz and 10 kHz the response stays within a window of plus or minus 2.0 dB. Sensitivity is 88.6 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, and impedance is 4 ohms nominal with a minimum of 3.1 ohms. SPL capability at 1 m across 100 Hz to 20 kHz is rated at 114.0 dB peak, falling to 111.0 dB peak when 2nd and 3rd harmonic distortion is kept under 3%. The cabinet measures 1285 mm high, 280 mm wide and 450 mm deep, and the finish is satin black.

Engineering and use context

All drivers in the A4t are bespoke units rather than catalogue parts, and the tweeter sits in a waveguide of Perlisten's own design, intended to govern how the tweeter output spreads into the room. The crossover and the cabinet were both engineered specifically for this model. In the 2.5-way layout the top woofer runs up into the midrange and meets the tweeter, while the lower two roll off and reproduce bass only. The result is extra cone area and output from a third driver with a single crossover point and no dedicated midrange unit. The binding posts sit on a recessed panel at the base of the rear baffle, and grilles are sold as an optional extra.

Pairing

Perlisten gives a recommended amplifier power range of 50 to 350 W. Because of the low impedance minimum, any stereo amplifier or AV receiver used here needs a 4 ohm rating, and matching A-Series models can fill the centre and surround positions in a cinema layout.
