The Synchrony B600 is a compact two-way model from PSB, the Canadian company Paul Barton founded in 1972. It belongs to the Synchrony Series, which PSB developed over two years, and uses a new driver platform together with new crossover and enclosure designs. As with every PSB model, it was voiced at the acoustics lab of the National Research Council in Ottawa, where the team led by Barton combined anechoic chamber measurements with scanning laser vibrometer work, finite-element analysis and electro-acoustic computer modelling.

Key specs that matter

On axis the B600 covers 50 to 20,000 Hz within 3 dB and 55 to 20,000 Hz within 1.5 dB. Measured in an anechoic chamber the sensitivity is 86 dB, with 88 dB given for a typical room, while impedance is 6 ohm nominal, falling to 4 ohm at minimum, and PSB suggests amplifiers of 15 to 150 W. A 6.5 inch woofer works with a 1 inch titanium dome tweeter, and the two meet at 2,200 Hz. The cabinet measures 228 x 393 x 298 mm wide, high and deep, and each speaker weighs 10.4 kg. Buyers choose between a Satin Walnut Veneer and a High Gloss Black cabinet.

Engineering and use context

The B600 woofer has a cone of woven carbon fibre, combining light weight with stiffness, and PSB says it reaches about half an octave lower than its previous driver designs. Its rubber surround has added mass at the cone junction to suppress reflections, the basket is cast aluminium, and a shorted turn in the motor keeps magnetic force constant across the voice coil gap. The tweeter has Ferrofluid cooling and a neodymium magnet and sits below the woofer. The Linkwitz-Riley 4th-order crossover uses high-voltage low-dissipation film capacitors, high-current inductors and oxygen-free internal wiring. The braced MDF enclosure carries a 5 mm solid aluminium front plate held by six isolation cups, so it touches the cabinet only at its perimeter. Four isolation feet designed for PSB by IsoAcoustics are built into the base, the rear port has a CNC-turned aluminium flange, and slim black grilles attach with magnets.

Pairing

PSB adds a Synchrony logo on the top edge of the front baffle. Two pairs of five-way insulated terminals permit bi-wiring or bi-amplification, while jumpers are supplied for connection to a single amplifier. PSB offers optional 610 mm black B600 stands with adjustable spikes and a top plate designed to meet the pre-installed isolation feet.
