Полочная акустика — Psb Alpha AM5

The Alpha AM5 is a powered bookshelf speaker system from PSB's Alpha range, built to run without a separate amplifier. PSB has built a long-standing reputation for offering well-measured, value-focused loudspeakers, and the powered Alpha AM5 extends that same accessible philosophy into a self-contained, amplifier-free format.

Position in line

It sits above the Alpha-AM3 in PSB's powered Alpha hierarchy, near the Alpha P3 and P5 passive models in the brand's broader Alpha range. This positioning within a range that includes both passive and powered variants sharing the Alpha name suggests PSB has deliberately extended its well-regarded Alpha acoustic platform into a self-powered format for buyers who want the brand's engineering without a separate amplifier purchase.

Key specs that matter

Rated response is 55 Hz to 20 kHz. Internal amplification totals 2 x 50 W across the pair, a modest but adequate figure for a compact desktop or small-room system. At 17.0 x 29.0 x 24.0 cm and 9.75 kg it is a compact, desk or shelf-scale system, sized realistically for a nearfield application rather than a full living-room installation.

Sound and use context

Expect an immediate, source-driven presentation typical of a compact powered speaker pair, suited to desktop or small-room use - a practical, plug-and-play alternative to building a passive speaker and amplifier system from scratch.

Pairing

No external amplifier is used - line-level or auxiliary sources connect directly to the built-in amplification, keeping system complexity to an absolute minimum.

Alternatives

The Alpha-AM3 sits below this model in PSB's powered range; the Alpha P3 and P5 offer passive alternatives requiring a separate amplifier, worth considering if the flexibility of a conventional separates system matters more than this model's plug-and-play convenience. As a compact, self-contained system, this model suits a desk, a small bedroom, or a secondary listening space where a full separates system would be impractical, and buyers should calibrate their expectations to that use case rather than a primary living-room system. PSB's broader Alpha range, spanning both passive and powered variants, gives buyers a reasonably wide set of options within a single coherent acoustic platform and price tier. Buyers should also confirm exactly what digital or wireless connectivity, if any, is included, since powered speaker systems in this category vary considerably in whether Bluetooth streaming is built in as standard.
