The Murano is the smallest of the large coaxial loudspeakers from Cabasse, the French company based in Brest that has specialised in coaxial drivers for decades. It is a three-way stand-mount designed and assembled in Cabasse's French workshops, built around the BC13 coaxial midrange-tweeter that also sits at the centre of the TC23 triaxial driver in the La Sphère and L'Océan systems.
Key specs that matter
The drivers are the BC13 coaxial midrange-tweeter and a 170 mm 17ND36 woofer. Crossover points are 800 Hz and 3.5 kHz. Frequency response is 48 Hz to 24 kHz, sensitivity is 87 dB, nominal impedance is 8 ohms and minimum impedance is 3.4 ohms. Power handling is 150 W with a peak rating of 1000 W. The cabinet measures 385 x 248 x 300 mm and weighs 14 kg.
Engineering and use context
In the BC13, the midrange and tweeter share one axis, so their outputs originate from a single point and remain aligned at all listening angles. The midrange membrane is an annular ring about 115 mm across, made of Cabasse's P2C material, and the housing is machined aluminium with a sealed rear chamber. A new aluminium waveguide was designed for the Murano to match the BC13's output to the woofer. Taking over from the woofer at a low 800 Hz, the coaxial unit handles most of the vocal range. The 17ND36 woofer was developed for this model and scales down the concept of the 55 cm woofer in La Sphère. Its concave honeycomb membrane combines rigidity with damping, allowing large excursion without deformation, and a long voice coil moves in a 45 mm deep gap of a 4 kg motor. Cabasse measures each design in an anechoic chamber both on axis and over 360 degrees, following its HDSE principle of homogeneous distribution of sonic energy, so direct and reflected sound have matching balance. Cabasse offers dedicated floor stands in black and matt white with hidden cable routing. The Murano also forms part of an active system with Cabasse's Abyss amplifier, a Class D stereo unit delivering 2 x 215 W into 4 ohms, and DEAP room processing tuned for Cabasse's own speakers. Updates to the processing arrive through the Cabasse StreamCONTROL app.
Pairing
Its low impedance dip and moderate sensitivity call for an amplifier able to deliver current into low impedances, from about 80 W per channel.
Alternatives
Cabasse's Riga 2 is the compact spherical stand-mount of the brand built around a coaxial driver.
